  • RYANDUNDAS1 Apr 21, 2009

thank youi have been told i have swollen my friction plates because i put 10w30 transmition oil into my bike
my bike stays in gear fully when clutch is pulled in.i know its pulling the presure plate coz i can feel it fine.i have took the clutch apart and everything looks fine its only when the pressure plate and cover goes on the problem occurs. the inner hub moves freely without the plates and metle rings in. do you think i have swollen my friction plates? and only my friction?
    thanks for helping
    thanks

I have a dennis kirk book, the correct spark plug is a --BR9ES--(NGK)

i always used SAE 10w-30 oil on all my dirtbikes,
no transmission fluid

for the chain you should move the back tire back until the chain is at a snug tension

    ***sorry it is th BR9EG(NGK)****

  • workhorsemo Apr 24, 2009

The first message i sent dissapeard this site had a glitch, but you need a BR9EG plug

    * make sure you drain the transmission fluid immediately

-there will be a drain plug bolt at the bottom of the crank case usually on the left side pull it off and drain it completely

-now replace the drain plug and fill it with synthetic SAE 10w30 motor oil-to 0.69 of a liter

almost 3/4 of a quart (for 750-850cc crank case size) I would reccomend using -mobil 1-

but thats your choice, maybe amsoil there are several brands.

Hey Ryan, I gotta say "told you so" on the trannie fluid. Go with NGK BR9ES. That is the plug that came in the bike when it was new. As to the clutch plates, you probably can't find just the friction plates. Clutch plates normally come in sets, < pressure plates / friction plates >. If you can find just the friction plates then go for it.

Best wishes, Tombones49

    ouch
put a new set of friction plates in it and that will take care of the problem but no more transmission oil use rotella 15w40 motor oil it will give you great results

that is the problem with the noise your hearing and that is fairly easy and cheap to fix. but do yourself a favor and buy a good set of sprockets and a roller chain you will get 2 times the life out of them

transmission oil has an additive in it that swells seals so a transmission will build hydraulic pressure inside the valve body

Will main clutch casing fit yz 125 2001 from 1997?

Hey Ryan! Long time since hearing from you.

When you say "main clutch casing" do you mean the right side cover for the gearbox or do you mean the primary driven gear (AKA "clutch basket") that the clutch boss (AKA "clutch hub") and all the clutch plates fit into?

If you mean the right outer casing > they are slightly different, '97 pn 4JY-15431-10-00 and 2001 pn 4JY-15431-12-00. The entire clutch is the same from 1997 through 2001.

Puting wrong oil in transmition

The problem did not start untill the 10w30 Honda transmission oil went in. It isn't the 10w30 thats the problem. It's the TRANSMISSION oil as opposed to MOTOR oil. There is a difference. As I said before, the swelling may or may not go away.

Best wishes Ryan :)

Yz 125 2001 stays in gear when clutch pulled in

Lose the Honda transmission oil. It may have swollen the cork on the friction plates. Go with 10w40 in the gearbox. Any major brand; Mobil, Shell, Quaker State, Pennzoil, etc.. Try the new oil and give the cork a week to shrink back down > if they will. You may need to put in a new set of plates.

My yz wont start, changed spark plug it ran for 1/2hr then died

Couple things- 1. If the plug was dirty after 1/2 hour you have either the wrong heat range plug(too cold) or 2. a fuel/carb issue. Buy a hotter NGK plug, ask for help the numbers don't always make sense. Use only full synthetic 2 stroke (I always liked bel-ray) and fresh 93 octane fuel. When you find a plug that works good buy a case of them, 2 stokes will foul plugs period. And some advice with your solution, never head into the woods without a spare plug, they will foul at the absolute worst time.

Spark plug

have a look in the owners manual or i a workshop manual and somewere in there it will tell u the best plugs that should be put in the bike. if it continues in my experiences burnt out plugs means the engine is running to hot which means it is iver fuelling. if this is the case try turning the mixture screw down half a turn
