I had this problem too. Further investigation showed that I forgot to reattatch the vacum tube that runs from the top of the carb to the fuel valve, sucsion from this lets the fuel through.

USA vs.UK. > I think you are saying the bike will only run with the choke on. Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Is there any water or trash in the bowl? Drain a cup of gas from the tank. Is there any water or trash in the cup? Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, ( not all bikes have a water trap bowl ).

Drain the carburetor. There should be a screw on the lower side of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carb to fill with gas. Install a new stock NGK spark plug and try to start the engine. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetor from the engine.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the idle screw and the air screw on the outside throat of the
carb and spray into the screw holes as well.

Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two screws down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each screw one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the
carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. This process should get you back on the road.

P.S. What do ya'll mean when you say " the bike is on a D plate ". Different letters are used. I am in Dallas Texas USA

Please rate this solution. Cheerio!

Just looking for insturctions for installing a FCR carm and MRD/SSW exhaust I just got for my DRZ 400

If google and manufacturer website are of no help then ask a search agency like http://manualfox.com - They do a great job.
The service is not for free, but often worthy (you only pay if they find what you are asking for).

I have a 52 plate suzuki DRZ 400 SM and sometimes

Get yourself some " Contact cleaner" aerosol to clean the contacts in your ignition barrel. Access should be fairly easy if you remove the headlight and fairing.
Sounds like you have been in mud or dust, contamination has most likely got into the switch.
Check and clean the kill switch on the handlebars while you are at it.
Happy Trails!

Can you slowly increase the revs? It sounds like an accelerator pump or debris in the carb.

They should be around 33hp at the rear wheel. They should wheelie ok, though you will need to try a bit for decent ones.
