Add oil. Check your Brake lights. If they do not work, the problem with starting is the brake safety switch. You are required to put your foot on the brake pedal to start your car.

If the brake safety switch is broken or knocked loose of the holder on the brake pedal lever, you will not get the release signal to engage the starter.

SOURCE: 2002 Cadillac DeVille wont start (even w/new battery!)

well first off, check the glove box light blub, make sure it shuts off when you close the door, check it by pressing the switch with your finger to make sure it shuts off, also check under the hood for the light there if there is one, pull the bulb, and the same thing for any bulb in the trunk, then check again after a day to see if the battery dies, if it is dying while the vehicle is not running then it is the battery, if it is dying after it is running then it is the alt. you can check that also tho with a multimeter set to the DC volts setting, place the black end <the ground to any grounded area> and the red end <the hot lead to the back of the alt. > it should be reading higher then 12 volts, normally should be a higher reading then 12 volts... if you are getting a lower reading or just 12 volts then the alt. is bad and needs to be replaced...hope this helps you out...

SOURCE: 2001 Ford Explorer Sport wont start

Even though I bought the vehicle new, there was an aftermarket security system installed. The system had a bad diode, so i removed the system and reconnected the factory wires.

SOURCE: chrysler 2004 starter doesn,t turn

My 2004 Sebring did just that. it was a fusible link. a tiny square box in there with the fuses. they are a cube that plugs in about 3/8" of an inch square. Find the bad one replace it and the starter starts working again.

1999 ford explorer wont start. battery is new.wont start when jumped. it tries to turn over but barely. then only hear a click. when you turn the key the dash lights and radio lights flicker on an

Sounds like starter motor given your slow to no turnover, I assume your new battery has full charge, if not, check with meter, it may be a defective battery, or another issue with connections, did you clean cable connections when you put in new battery? I assume your engine was running properly before battery change and is not partially seized due to overheating or low oil.

Good luck,

Car wont start, NOT battery

sometimes a rubber mallet doesn't work on the stater, you actually have to hit it with something stronger, like a hammer while turning it over. If not check to see if you have a pro lock on your vehicle because if that becomes just a little loose it won't start.

Hi, I had a start problem with my celica. tried to turn the car over and a constant clicking sound was made, however all lights were on and the radio was working.. thought possible starter problem,...

The problem is that your battery is extremely low. The repeated clicking sound is your starter relay trying to engage, then releasing again when the starter takes the remaining voltage available to try to turn. When the relay disengages, the starter can no longer take any voltage at all, so the relay again engages and the process starts over. This results in "CLICK, CLICK, CLICK, CLICK...." There simply is not enough power available to operate both the relay and the starter.

Your alarm system doesn't have enough voltage to function properly. It "thinks" that someone is trying to steal your car or is messing with your battery cables. It doesn't know the difference between low voltage from a dead battery and low voltage from somebody disconnecting wires. It is simply responding to the low voltage condition as it is designed to do. Fix the voltage problem and you will fix your security system. No need to reset anything.

Jump-start the car or replace the battery and get your charging system checked to make sure everything is functioning properly. It is possible that the battery is good but you have a bad alternator and the battery is low because it is not being charged.

I have a 2001 BMW 325i and the car wont start. When I go to turn it on it just clicks. I recently changed the sparks plugs and the air filter as well as the oil. what could be the problem?

the "click" sounds like the solenoid on the starter motor is engaging but that the starter is not turning. So either the starter motor has failed or the charge in the battery is too low. Try a "jump" start....if makes no difference, check starter connections....if they all okay.....new starter time

2000 pontiac bonneville wont start

It sounds like a bad connection somewhere, check the battery cable connections for corrosion and tightness, both ends. It could be the starter, starter solenoid, starter relay, neutral safety switch or ignition. Try moving the shift lever to the "N" position and see if that helps. When you say you have a dead key, do you mean you have no dash lights, (oil pressure light, battery light, things of that nature) no clicking, no nothing?

1990 oldsmobile silhouette wont start

Even though the lights work the battery should be load tested to see if it can handle a heavy amp. draw like the starter. If you have a battery charger, but it on the battery and leave it for a few hours. Also check the battery connections to be sure they are clean. If it starts check to make sure the alternators is chargeing the battery.

2001 pontiac sunfire wont start

I have had the exact same problem. There is an ignition lock that probably went off. There is a fuse box under the hood. The fuse that says ignition on it pull it out and put it back in. This should reset the ignition lock. Its a safety feature because the car thinks that someone was trying to tamper with it.
