Check and see if you are getting fire to any of your spark plugs. Let me know if you are or aren't. We'll go from there.

The pick-up coil next to the stator could be bad as well.

Whats wrong when your riding and the bike starts cutting out, backfiring, then just goes dead?

The first thing that you can check is the fuel pump, wiring and fuel filter. The power wires coming from the ignition, sometimes get corroded. the symptoms sounds like fuel starvation.

Bike cuts out at running temperature

You actually may have two problems. First, if you have a spark from a coil, find out why. May be a bad or loose connection. when coils get hot their resistance increases. A leak or bad connection will show up quicker when hot. If the spark comes from the body of the coil, replace it.
Second, your starter may be breaking down when hot. Check the brushes and coils in the starter motor. The same discussion about loose connections also will apply to the starter.
good luck

Bike wont start

Check the fuel tap is turned on and that the fuel filter is clean. If this is all good, you should check that fuel is getting into the fuel reservoir on the carb. If no fuel is getting through, your fuel pump may have failed. But, as you don't say the make and model of your bike, I can't be sure.

Bike will start and warm up fine. after riding till its up to operating temp (running fine) no missing , or other problems, if you shut it down, it wont start back up- it just pops, and backfires. only way...

Seems as I've answered this question before. I hope I haven't answered for you already because if I did, the information I gave you didn't work.

First off, you've got to determine why the engine is not starting. An engine needs three things to run. Compression, Ignition, and fuel. Since it's doubtful that your compression has just went away without some catastropic event taking place, that leaves ignition and fuel. So, we have to determine which is the culprit.

Ignition, if you or a friend has a spare spark plug, pull a spark plug wire off a plug and put the spare plug in there. Hold the spark plug firmly gournded to the engine and try to start the engine. Watch the plug to see if you're getting a spark. If you are, proceed to the fuel checks. If not, you need to deternine why not. Since you said you replaced the coil, did you put the correct coil on the bike? Using an ohm meter, disconnect the wires from the small terminals of the coil and test the resistance between the two connections of the coil. The primary resistance across the coil should be 3-4 ohms for an electronic ignition like ou your '93 model. If the coil checks good, there is an ignition black box under the triangular plate on the left side of the box. The service manual tells you how to test this unit but you must use the speicific type of meter they use or your readings will be wrong. So, if you're not getting spark, I'd plan on replacement of the ignition unit on the bike.

If you think the problem is fuel related, you need to determine whether you have too little fuel or too much fuel. Remove a spark plug and see if wet and smells like gasoline. If so, you're bike's carburetor is flooding for some reason. It could be the needle valve or the accelerator pump. You might try turning your petcock off when you stop the bike. If this solves the problem, you need to service the carburetor to fix the problem correctly. Rebuild the carburetor. Good Luck.

Motorcycle cuts out and backfires when accelerating. black smoke puffs out when backfiring

I need more information. Is the bike carburated or fuel injected? Did it just start this or has it been doing this for a while? It sounds like either an ignition or a fuel problem.

If it has a carb, I'd say that it's jetted way too rich or the main jet has come loose in the carb maybe. Tell me what kind of carb is on the bike if it is indeed carburated. I need the year model of the bike and the name of the carb on it. Maybe I can tell you how it's supposed to be jetted. If the main jet has come loose, you will lose control of the amount of fuel going into the engine at wide open throttle.

You may have a bad spark plug as well, either get a new set or have the ones you're running now cleaned. When you pull them out, look and see if they're really black and sooty looking. This is indicating a rich mixture. Check your spark plug wires and make sure they're in the coil correctly. Check of loose connections at the coil primary (small wire connections) connectors. Make sure that chrome cover over the coil is not loose shorting out the ignition.

Fuel injected, I can't help you with that as it takes a special device to make any adjustment in that system.

86 Shadow VT500 suddenly losing power/bogging down

first thing to do is to check fuel level. you mentioned about 290 miles since you owned it but no fillups. did you get gas from same store? not unusual to pickup trash or water in fuel from conv. stores. with that out of the way, look at your plugs and see what they look like. black and sooty would be fuel fouled and very white or very light tan would be lean. if plugs and fuel are eliminated, it could be the result of a stator coil starting to go south. these will require special tools to diagnose.

19-95 KLF300 ATV Kawasaki 4x4 no spark put new ignitor unit on.

You said the motor cut out and popped and backfired when it quit, this is almost always one of two things; either the low speed pulse coil or the actual CDI "black" box. You will almost never lose a main coil. One thing I would also check to make sure did not happen is shearing a flywheel mag key. When the motor backfires you can easily shear a mag key if you have a heavy flywheel, (external). However when this happens you don't usually lose spark but it will certainly cause the backfire.
One other item of importance is that the bike you are in question about does not emit a bright spark when you are checking for fire. Make sure you are using a brand new plug and ground it on the head. Try to make sure you are in a dark environment when you check the spark.

Wont run for more then 10 sec

If you can do your own work, try some things if its dies you ether loseing fuel pres, injector control, or spark........ the fuel pres is easyest to ck, just stick a gauge between the pump and the rail, should be 42-43lbs, on the spark pull a coil stick and put an extra plug in it and fire up the bike be careful doing this is case of fuel leaks under tank, if the bike quits and you try to start it and you still got spark this may be ok, this is a bit more difficult, you have to ck the plug connections at the coil sticks, if you ck in a service manual each coil has two wires going to it one is going to be powered all the time, the other one is grounded by the ECM when the injector is supposed to fire, a node light will help in checking this, OR you can do what most of us do, take the bike to a good suz guy that knows what he's doing
