There are baffles in the exhast, they are needed to create back pressure on the engine. You can buy a set of high flow exhaust and a high flow air intake to free up horse power.

Hi, I have a 1980 Honda XR250. The compression is around 120 (with decompression disconnected). It blows smoke and will not rev high - I assumed carb dirty, cleaned it but still reluctant to go to high...

Might be a good idea to check your timing first and then if the timing is ok try removing your exaust pipe and running it for a few minutes without the exaust system installed. I have encountered a couple of bikes where the exaust system has carboned up and will not allow the engine to breathe especially at hiogher rpms. A day in the gunk tank for the exaust pipe did the trick and the bike ran like new. (Gunk will remove all the paint too)

How do i deristrict my bike??

i wouldn't reconmend it but it can be done by , putting on a "slightly" bigger carb , fitting a racing exhaust and racing cdi , this advaces timing , this next part trades acceleration for top speed this is done by putting on a "slightly" bigger front spocket eg by 1 or 2 teeth

the easiest HP gains are an aftermarket muffler, the bike may need rejetting with the new muffler, the jets sometimes come with the muffler

Removing baffles

When removing such things or even changing exaust system, make sure carb jets are reset. Or if your bike is fuel injected to have it reprogramed.By changing exaust flow you change intake flow.

I assume this is kick start only, and by now your right leg is twice the size of your left one ! correct? If you can't find a long nearby hill, get a trusted buddy to pull your bike w/ another bike or car/truck. Attch rope to bottom triple clamp and don't go over 20 mph, use 2nd gear...this may sound risky but i have done it many times and find that nothing clears out an engine faster !...Good Luck to you friend...Tim

Exaust

As far as I know this will fit but check the number of holes at the end of the original exhaust. I think there are 3 holes for this type but could also be 4. I used to have a Suzuki GSX-R750 2001 and this bike fitted also the exhaust from the 600 and 1000 type.
