Question about 1989 kawasaki ZXR 250

1 Answer

Where do I find the netural start switch on my 89 zxr250?

When my bike is running in netural the netural light flickers and the bike wants to cut out. If I put it in gear with the clutch in the bike runs fine.

The neutral switch is mounted in the left end of the shift drum. It is part number 13151-1080. There is an associated part, "PIN-neutral position" #92043-076 The pin is under a bolt screwed into the top case. Bad switch or loose wire connection.

I have a 2007 yamaha v star, i started it the other day just fine but when i put it in gear it died out. now it will not start, it will turn over but the neutral light will not turn on when the kick stand...

look under the kickstand an see if your switch is disconected there may be a broken spring that is not letting the switch move to the on posistion the only other thing that i can thank of off hand is that your kill switch may be bad but im leaning toward the kick stand switch can you put it in netural and the bike roll freely if you can then its the switch if the switch isnt depressed then the bike wont start hope that helps.

Dear Expert, I have a 4s kawasaki bike 10 years old. present problem is as i kick it doesnt start. neutral lights flicker and go off. my battery may be old is it? i want to try it myself as so many...

If you suspect the battery you can jump the bike from a car battery. Do not have the car running, 12volt to 12volt, do not crank the starter too long or your could burn out the starter. If the bike still does not start and the lights still flicker you probably have dirty contacts in your kill switch or more likely the ignition switch.Take the switches apart and clean them or replace them. Also corrosion can be an issue where ever two wires are connected in the harness. Systematically unplug and replug all the harness connections and concentrate on the plugs around the head light bucket and battery (flickering nuetral light). Remember a simple dirty battery connection will stop any vehicle in its tracks.

My yamaha yzfr 125 starts up and everything works when in neutraul.. but when i hold in the clutch and click it into 1st gear the engine light flickers and then the bike cuts it self out.. why is this?

The kickstand may be down or the switch associated with the kick stand is bad. It's a safety feature to not allow the engine to run with the kickstand down.

My tail light basically turns on and off as it pleases.

Hi Mate. Just a thought but have you changed the bulb. Sometimes the element breaks but stays roughly in position vibrating with the bike and causing an intermittent fault. If that isnt it then try running a wire from the negetive side to the bike frame. If that stops it flickering at least you will know its an earth fault somewhere. Regards. Johno

Cant find shims for '89 kawasaki zxr250

Hi .... You might have to go through Kawasaki or a good dealer may have some in his workshop. Do not sand or grind the ones you have as you will remove or reduce surface hardness. A good engineering firm (with an accurate lathe) could make you a few in Stubbs steel if you provide a pattern and state the sizes you require.
Tell me where you are based and I might be able to make suggestions.

Tiger triumph 2008 brand new wont start... help

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

If I may suggest:
  • re-charge fully the battery. It may have run down on the previous tries;
  • thereafter, switch IGN to ON and verify pump running felt on the tank;
  • neutral, engine switch ON, IGN switch ON, clutch IN, start.
Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.
