Do you mean the tightness of the ball joint nuts? If you do use 55lbs, then tighten further if cotter pin hole does not line up. DON'T back off to get pin to go in!

I can not get the caster on the left side to adjust to specs. has new upper control arm and +/- 2 degree adjusterts and caster will not go below +5.5.

There has to be something bent. Lower control arm look oK? Any sign of fame damage? Spindle look ok? Caster is generally not a tire wear factor. However, the vehicle will pull to the side with most caster and least camber.

WARNING!!! IF YOU ARE NOT MECHANICALLY INCLINED WITH NO EXPERIENCE WORKING ON CARS STOP NOW!!!THIS WILL BE MORE THAN YOU CAN HANDLE BRING YOUR CAR TO A MECHANIC FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY IF YOU DO HAVE EXPERIENCE THAN LETS GO FOWARD! ALWAYS TRY YOUR BEST TO HAVE SOMEONE WITH YOU INCASE SOMETHING GOES WRONG THEY CAN HELP YOU OR GET HELP FOR YOU IN THE EVENT THATYOU ARE IN DANGER OR PROBLEMS ARISE OUT OF YOUR CONTROL . first of all acquire a good jack and jack stands and tools if your experienced you already have them, first jack the vehicle up and place it on jack stands on level ground take of the tire place the jack under the control arm where the spring seat is and put It under a load so the arm raises up now for the top ball joint loosen the compression nut that holds the upper ball stud joint in on the top of the spindle spray some W D 40 on it and slowly lower the jack to get the ball joint stud to come out as the spindle drops down you might have to tap it with a hammer to free it from the spindle. then go to the upper control arm and mark the position of the old ball joint on the arm remove the nuts and the shim nuts that fit into the flange on the joint, next place the new ball joint into the control arm and align it to the marks you made before removal paying attention to put it back as close as you can to the old one place the shim nut in and then the hold down nut and tighten it till snug place the second shim nut in the right position and put the hold down nut in and tighten that till snug now go back and tighten each nut as tight as you can get it using a breaker bar for more leverage then tighten the spindle pinch bolt making sure the bolt is locked into the spindle on the flats of the bolt so it doesn't move while you tighten it 39-53 FT.LBS. or as much as you can lower the car from the stands and jack and go for a wheel alignment and the mechanic will check your work during the alignment procedure to make sure all specs are right anytime you change a steering or suspension component you must take the vehicle for a wheel alignment so you will have the proper alignment settings and avoid premature tire wear and suspension/steering component failure. for the bottom ones you raise the vehicle put it on stands turn which ever wheel it is to point outward from the front of the wheel put a jack stand under the rotor loosen the ball joint stud nut a couple of turns on the front of the spindle you will see a flat squared steel extension sticking out from it(spindle boss) take W D 40 or liquid wrench and spray it into the spindle where the ball joint stud, goes through the spindle to help loosen the grip take a sledge or drilling hammer of 4lbs. or more and strike the spindle boss with your hammer a few times this will disconnect the ball joint stud from the spindle now support the control arm with a stand or the jack and pound out the ball joint from the control arm or use a ball joint press to remove the ball joint from the lower control arm once out take the new ball joint grease it around the sides that fit into the control arm then place it in the arm giving it very light taps with your hammer raise up the jack and fit the ball joint shaft into the spindle and tighten the nut this will seat the ball joint into the control arm properly and tighten to the new ball joint manufacturer's torque setting the rest is the reverse of removal once off the jacks and stands take the vehicle for a wheel alignment as said before you must always take the car in after any suspension or steering component repairs have been done to ensure proper wheel alignment and to avoid premature tire or other steering or suspension component failures that will happen as a result of insufficient wheel alignment ALWAYS USE GOOD TOOLS AND A GOOD PAIR OF STANDS AND OF COURSE A REAL GOOD STRONG JACK DO NOT USE THE CHEAP $25.00 JACK FROM A VARIETY STORE IT'S VERY IMPORTANT FOR YOUR SAFETY THAT YOU USE THE BEST MADE TOOL PRODUCTS NOT THE CHEAP STUFF CHEAP STUFF BRINGS CHEAP RESULTS TOOLS WILL BREAK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE JOB AND THEN WHAT DO YOU DO YOU GOT PROBLEMS SO SPEND THE $$$ ON YOUR TOOLS IT WILL BE MADE UP FOR ON THE $$$ YOU SAVE DOING THE WORK YOURSELF GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND EVERYBODY ELSE WHO USES THIS THREAD FOR HELP TO FIX UP THERE CAR STEPHEN

I'm trying to change my struts on my 1994 ford thunderbird. I bought the full assembly with the springs and everything already together.. How do I go about doing this?

  1. Remove plastic cover at upper strut mount. Remove automatic ride actuator (if equipped). Remove 3 upper strut retaining nuts and collar plate from the mounting studs in engine compartment.
  2. Raise vehicle on hoist. Remove tire and wheel assembly. Remove lower strut mounting bolt and nut. Remove nut at stabilizer link upper mounting stud. Separate link studs from spindle and stabilizer bar using Joint Separator.
  3. Support lower control arm assembly with jack. Raise control arm with jack until stabilizer link can be separated from spindle. Position link aside.
  4. Remove and discard spindle to upper control arm nut and bolt. Lower jack to separate spindle form upper control arm. Support spindle aside with wire or other means. Remove jack from lower control arm and remove strut assembly.
  5. Reverse disassembly instructions to install new strut on each side.
  6. Check alignment/have vehicle aligned.

I need to change the control arm on my chrysler

disconect the balljoint from thespindle (take the nut off the balljoint going into the spindle after taking that off hit the side spindle withe a hammer where the ball joint goes in while pulling up on the controll arm. this should pull the balljoint out of the spindle) Now all you have to do is take the bolts out of the controll arm and it should come right off. not a hard job.
