Question about 1988 Suzuki LS 650 Savage
I have been looking for the specs to my carb on my 1988 suzuki savage ls400. I just cant get the mix right it ither blows black smoke or back fires quite loud when i turn her off. Ive cleaned out the carb fully and reset the exhust valves . I did a compression test and is only at 55psi.. now ither thats not good or the valves are stuffed. If any one has riden or worked on 400 savy you no that they are a big slug!

Is the compression release operating properly? Is it stuck open a bit? Is the head gasket blown? Normal compression is 125psi to 150psi. This sounds like a stuck compression release, blown head gasket or burned valves. A mechanic will need to pull the cylinder head and do a valve job on it if the compression release or gasket is not the problem.
