I just recently experienced the same thing.  I drained all the fluid out of the clutch master throught the slave cylinder and refilled it with new fluid.  Bled the system really good and now it works just like new.  If this does not help you may need to remove the slave cylinder and replace the seals if it is leaking.
Good luck1

How to free up clutch on honda shadow

if it stuck from being stood that's due to corrosion on the clutch plates the steel plates rust and stick to the friction plates, two ways to do it
1st is to start the bike get someone to give you a good push then put in in 1st gear, hold the clutch in and open and close the throttle quite quickly ,hold on as it will jerk about a bit and possibly wheelie.that should do it if it doesn't
2nd,Take the clutch cover off and undo the clutch bolts that hold the pressure plate on and manually separate the plates ,clean them up with some fine wet and dry sandpaper and re assemble it..

I have a Yamaha XT 600 that hasn't been started for over a year. When I tried to bump start it today it felt like the clutch was seized a little as it barely moved when in gear and clutch lever pulled in....

That's kind of normal. The wet clutch plates are stuck together from not being used. Put the bike into first gear. Hold the clutch in and rock the bike backward until it free up. If that does not do the trick, start the bike. Get someone to give you a push, and when you are moving a bit put it in gear ( always keep the clutch in at all time and do this on an open road where you can drive away if the clutch does not unstick itself). As you will drive away with the clutch in, open and close the throttle a fews times until the cltch frees up.
that does the trick all the time for me on my old scramblers.

Runs but wont go into gear. Just grinds after feeling a thump.

if the bike only grabs gears with the rpm way up there is a chance the clutch is gone or just about. make sure the clutch is properly adjusted. Also if it is a wet clutch be sure you have the proper amount of the right oil. if there is super old oil in the clutch plates they wont grab.

1999 Honda Shadow VT1100C Clutch Problem

indicates that the clutch adjustment is incorrect ( possible incorrect oil in use) and the pressure plate is allowing a slow slip until it gets to the point that clutch fade occurs ( friction heat build up glazes the plates
if hydraulic clutch operation , could be in the compensating port in the clutch master cylinder not allow the fluid to pass back to the reservoir properly
if cable a failing clutch cable inside the outer case
At this point , changing and using the recommended oil, and checking the clutch operation method and adjustment may fix it before going into the expense of a clutch
talk with an accredited service dealer first will probably save you cash

I am sure it's a wet clutch. Pop your bike in neutural. Remove your clutch crank case cover and, using a screwdriver, separate the plates manually. Put the tip of your screwdriver between the edge of the clutch plates and turn the screwdriver. It will break the seal of your plates and spacers. Put it all together again. Do a fluid flush and refill your oil to recommended levels. Get the bike running again and give it a go. Should be fine. Good luck!

The cluthc discs were stuck together, this is a common problem with wet multi disc setups. You have gotten it broken loose now the best thing for it is to take it on the road and ride it. Just working the clutch will smooth any bits of stuck clutch material off the discs. Get out and ride to fix it, kind of like getting a perscription for ice cream!

Well, there is only one thing I can think of in your situation. Your pressure plates just simply are not creating enough pressure to allow the gears to engage. Either you have a defective clutch and it needs to be replaced, or possibly just needs a ton of adjustment. When you put it in 1st gear while engine is off, then start it and take off that works b/c there is enough pressure to keep the gears from starting to move when not already moving. However when they are already moving, there is just not enough pressure to stop them from turning, not even long enough to shift. Have you tried forcing it into 2,3, or 4 while driving without the clutch? As long as you achieve the correct RPM's your transmission should be able to do so.

you need to replace the clutch plates as they are probably contaminated, and clean the steel pressur plats with some fine wet and dry until clean with no rust, make sure you use the correct grade of gear oil and adjust the clucht pushrod assembly as shown in the owners manual.
