How do I pull the rope out of my winch

There is a release lever on one of the sides. It is usually pretty stiff to get open but it does. Once you disengage the clutch with that lever it will free spin off. Remember to re-engage the clutch when you are ready to real it in.

This sounds like heavy duty springs in the clutch. Just have to get used to it. I suspect this is a cable actuated clutch correct? If it isn't then that does sound a little strange. Usually hydraulic clutch lever action is pretty easy... Good luck HDTV GURU JAY

I have a 1993 FXRP which I am guessing is the basic same engine as regular FXR. I want to adjust the clutch because even though it is engaging when i let the lever out it takes until it is almost to the...

Adjust the clutch on your FXRP the same way you adjust it on any H-D.

First, find the cable adjuster, loosen the lock nut, and turn the adjuster inwards and get as much slack in the cable as possible.

Then, take the derby cover off. In the center of the clutch assy, you'll see a bolt and a locknut. Loosen the locknut and turn the bolt inwards until you feel a resistance. Do not force the bolt as you'll start to disengage the clutch. Turn it inwards only until you feel the resistance. Then, back the bolt back out 1/2 turn, and lock the lock nut. Replace the derby cover.

Now, go back the cable adjuster and adjust it outward until you have 1/8" freeplay at the lever. Lock the locknut and replace the rubber boot.

On most bikes, there is a rod going down the center of the clutch. The lever on the case pushes this rod in when you squeeze the lever on the handlebar. If the rod going through the clutch will not move, the clutch will not release. It doesn't move very much, maybe a few millimeters. If you cannot remove the rod[you may have to use a magnet to pull it out] then the rod is bent. This could have happened if you assembled the new clutch incorrectly. If the sequence during reassembly was wrong, the disks were jammed. When you squeezed the clutch lever, something had to give. The clutch rod.

Push in clutch lever play even with new cable on my 74 TL125

It still sounds like that roller ball is missing. Do you have a manual to check for exact location? Yamahas have them on the casing side but not sure about Hondas. It is REALLY easy to drop out without being seen.

Parts in that casing do not usuall "weld" themselves together unless someone has really been abusting the clutch. Could be the clutch spring has lost some tension but no way to tell without comparing it with a new one. If you had a manual or even a friendly dealer you could find out proper specs. for the spring and then measure yours.

Don't just start replacing parts without verifying they have failed. It can just get expensive and not solve anything.

How many hours / km on the bike? Clutch plates may be kaput but you don't mention clutch slipping?

Don't cut the cable yet. If you do, just trim it to about mid adjustment. It is easy to cut a bit more than cut too short! Either way, cutting is a bodge job. Best to find root cause and fix it.

if it is cable operated you want to adjust at the clutch perch (where the lever is mounted on) to where you have about an 8th inch of play before you feel the tension of the clutch in the lever. if that dosent do it change your oil if you havent done so already and if that dosent do it then the clutch is probably toast.

Can't shift into gear

If the clutch lever is very easy to pull back (no tension) your cable is broke, if not you need to adjust the clutch. You might want to check at your local library to find a repair manual for your bike. It will show you what you need to know, replacing cable or adjusting clutch.

Smoked Clutch

the only clutch action I was getting was /is in the last 25% of the lever throw. I brought it home and let it cool and tried bleeding the clutch. Didn't seem to help. I have no idea what tranny oil is in it. Figured I'd just tear it apart and check things out with the plates and such. Anyone got any tips or links on what I should be looking for? If you haven't figured it out yet...I'm very new at this but I enjoy doin my own wrenching so any help will be very much appreciated.Look closely at the master cylinder and lever. When you pull the lever does it almost instantly start pushing the mc piston? Is there too much clearance between the lever and mc piston? Is the adjuster screw missing from the lever? There is also a push-pin between the adjuster screw and mc piston the dust-boot holds it in place. Is it installed? If the adjuster comes loose that pin can fall out.,,
