First check petrol flow and pressure , if pressure ok ,check flow, if flow is low replace fuel filter, If the fuel all checks ok .There is a relay that disables the injectors and petrol pump when on gas, this may be at fault.

Put a new in tank fuel pump in 3 days ago in my hyundai accent, but can smell petrol inside the car.

I would double check that your fuel tank is sealed. Fuel fumes can be very bad for your health and can be very dangerous. Sounds as though the gas line may be leaking, or the fuel pump seal is leaking.

I have a JCB 5.5HP which has started leaking petrol badly through the carb. I have checked the float and needle which seem to be working ok. It really does flow out both when I get it started and when it...

The ONLY way IN for fuel is the Float Valve, Now if petrol is coming out of the float bowl, then, the Valve must be faulty OR the Float mechanism, or spring, itself.

Run out of petrol put more in went to start car just kicks over seem like petrol not getting to carb the car is a 1997 model 146 no smells like flooding

Are you sure you ran out of petrol? It might be that the petrol pump or something else had died. The only way to tell is to undo the fuel line from the carb and turn it over, check if it pumps fuel (have someone help you with this.) You might also find that you've got a blockage in your fuel filter, caused maybe by **** left floating at the top of the tank that was sucked in when you ran out of petrol. Check the filter first and see if it's OK, then check if fuel is flowing. Also, on a 97 Alfa, I'd imagine it was fuel injected though I could be wrong. If it is then you'll want to be more careful wit the fuel line.
