Get a different bike. For the money you spend, any performance increase will be tiny compared to simply getting a bike that has the power you are looking for. It sounds like a V-max is a better choice for you than a Vstar.

Pacific coast star has some cams and higher compression pistons that will bump your power significantly on pump gas. I respectfully disagree with Dickcanfixit, because there are a couple "full on" kits that can be had for this engine that'll make the harley Boys take a good look at your taillights.
have fun!

best place to ask is a bike modification shop that installs exhausts , runs the bike on a dyno to check performance and has practical experience on your inquiry
ask around bike shops or read bike magazines to find such shops

Need to fix my 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 dually,6.7 Cummings diesel, check engine light code P2002

P2002 - Diesel Particulate Filter Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
Description: The powertrain control module(PCM) monitors the efficiency of the diesel particulate filter for a concern. The efficiency of the filter is determined by the amount of restriction in the filter for a certain exhaust flow rate. The diesel particulate filter is preconditioned for 5,000 km (3,107 miles) before the PCM begins to monitor the level of restriction. The test fails when the measured level of restriction is less than the expected level calculated by the PCM. Possible Causes:
  • Dirty air cleaner element
  • Recent manual or thorough diesel particulate filter regeneration
  • Aftermarket accessories and performance modifications
  • Modified tailpipe
  • Exhaust leaks before or near the diesel particulate filter pressure sensor
  • Leaks in the diesel particulate filter pressure sensor connecting hose
  • Damaged diesel particulate filter
Diagnostic Aids: Check for leaks in the exhaust system. Check for aftermarket exhaust accessories and performance modifications that decrease the exhaust restriction. If a new diesel particulate filter was recently installed, verify the diesel particulate filter parameter reset procedure was carried out.

Not a problem just a question...

The cheapest would be a cold air kit (probably less than $200.00). It is easy to install, but won't quite get you there. The next is a better exhaust system (probably under $200.00). The other easiest modification is a performance chip or engine tuner, but they can be upwards of $300.00. A high performance coil, spark plugs & wires can help as well. The bad news is that each of these will make a minimal improvement by themself. Together they make a grand improvement. Everything is expensive.

What are the better extractor, exhaust systems for a 1.6 ltr manual accent and is it worth changing air filter to an aftermarket set up?

I never recommend aftermarket modifications to any vehicle. Aftermarket air induction systems - especially those with the "permanent" air filters tend to wreak havoc with Mass Airflow sensors and Intake Air Temperature Sensors. Aftermarket exhaust systems can cause problems with exhaust flow that can mess with the calibration of Oxygen Sensors. These things all lead to severe Catalytic Converter damage. When these vehicle fail to run properly, they are extremely hard, if not impossible, to properly diagnose because the troubleshooting charts for the vehicle no longer apply like they should. (It's hard enough trying to get good accurate information for the FACTORY set-up.)
These systems are set up by the vehicle manufacturer for the best performance and the best efficiency with the least amount of required maintenance.
My recommendation is that if your car does not have enough power for your needs, trade it in for a car with a bigger engine.
- Just my opinion based on 36+ years of experience. Take it as you will.

Can you comment on how to increase horsepower on a 1998 1300 Tour Cruiser, at a reasonable cost.

This is a question asked about a decade too late, unfortunately. The 1996-1998 Standards, Tour Classics, and Tour Deluxes benefited greatly from Yamahas' decision NOT to offer the VMax in Europe and Asia with V-Boost - leaving non-US customers some 50+ horsepower down. The VMax had the look BUT they were being blown away by any literbike on the market, and, worse yet, couldn't compete with the Honda V65 Magna, a bike similarly styled and engineered, introduced four years earlier, and thoroughly "shaken out".

Aftermarket to the rescue! Big Air kits, cams, titanium lifter buckets, four-into-four low restriction exhausts, high-capacity water, oil and fuel pumps, tunable ignition systems, oversize front and rear shocks and springs - the best part for Royal Star riders was that many of the accessories were available for their bikes, because of the similarities between the 1200cc VMax and 1300cc Royal Star engines and suspensions.

Now, however, the older VMaxes are historic footnotes, and the Royal Stars haven't received anything but cosmetic upgrades since 1999. The market for Royal Star performance parts in the U.S. is mostly nonexistent; the bikes are usually bought for touring or cruising duties, not stoplight-to-stoplight bashes; reliability, comfort and appearance are the Royal Star's strengths.

I owned a 1998 Tour Deluxe, and searched the Internet for the parts I had used to personalize it. The two survivors of the last decade seem to be: Baron Stealth Big Air Kit - $249.95 (http://www.baroncustom.com/), and Dynatek Dyna 3000 digital ignition $289.99 http://www.dynaonline.com/). Competition Cams dropped their cams, springs, and lifters, and both Bub and Cobra dropped their 4-into-4 and 4-into-2 exhausts. Some of the exhausts are still available for 99- Royal Stars, but that's no help for you.

There are a few upgrades/modifications that can be performed on the Xbox to repair the 3 RROD. 1 main issue is the GPU heat sink. The thermal paste should be upgraded and the Xclamps need to be removed. Replacing the X clamp heat sink studs with screws and neoprene washers. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! Good luck!

What can i do to add horse power

The first upgrade for any vehicle is to upgrade the stock computer to an aftermarket. This gives the advantage to be able to adjust the air fuel mixtures to a more agressive level and can give you upto %30 more performance. Next upgrades are air filter and ehaust. Then you may be wanting to upgrade the fuel injectors and fit a large turbocharger. The airfilter and exhaust are the cheapest upgrades they can and often done first but in reality the ecu upgrade will give the best performance difference for $$.
