Changing clutch plates on a 1994 KE 100

I have to change the clutch plates on a 1994 Kawasaki KE 100 and I don't know if I have to split the crankcase or if there is an easier way.

Hi! Thank you for the info but here's the thing; under the right crank case cover are 2 things; the carburetor and the oil pump. I haven't taken it apart yet but I think the clutch is in further. Is this not the case?

Thank you! That is just what I needed to know - and I already have an impact driver (very handy). As for the rating, I was only given 2 options; helful and not helpful. Obviously I chose helpful both times. Thanks again!

All you need to do is remove the right crankcase cover then remove the clutch cap and springs then the friction plates and clutch plates. Note that a friction plate is both the first and last plate in the clutch and that a pressure plate is in-between each friction plate. Friction plates are fiber, pressure plates are metal. No case splitting is required.

You may want to get a 3/8" impact driver to remove screws and hex head bolts and to tighten them back up. I find it to be the most useful tool in my shop. My Bluepoint brand impact driver is 40 years old an as good as new.

Please rate this answer. Thanks kettnerrequip!

The carb and the oil pump are inside the right case and the clutch and kick starter are there also. Just follow the original answer and you should not have any problems. I can't be there to turn the screws but this is an easy thing for you to handle if you get the impact driver tool.

Any reason this is not a top rated answer? What more can I do?

I finely found out how the rating can be changed. Lower left where it give the two choices, after clicking helpful the question changes to "Did this solve the problem?" Then the 4 blue diamonds pop up. Figuring out how the system works is tougher than diagnosing engine problems!

No, this is a clutch problem. I love these bikes, wish I still had mine. Need new cable and probably clutch plates. It's very easy to change the clutch. If you get stuck email me at andydrinkell@yahoo.co.uk and I'll talk you through it.

Recently purchased a '97 Vulcan 1500 C. Had 11,730 miles on it. After riding about 1,000 miles, the clutch is begining to slip when cold. Seems ok after riding for about an hour. It also clunks, or grinds...

I don't think your clutch is bad, if it doesn't slip when hot. I would be blaming the pull on the lever not enough, or the gears are worn in the tranny. You can adjust the lever and you can try bleeding off the clutch, The engine oil usually cools the clutch, I'm not sure where your filter is, mine is underneath like a car. My tranny clunks and grinds when revving too much, have to wait for the revs to go down before shifting into first. It used to slip on hot days. Hasn't done it but a couple times. I never took out the clutch basket, but it seems fairly easy. If the oil change doesn't do it, and the bleeding of the slave, I would have to dig deeper into complaints about your bike, before I blame the clutch. You might not have to touch it, but you might be looking at something else. Check it out.

I need to change the clutch on my 1981 Kawasawki KE125

It should be under the left side engine case. un do case screws, remove clutch cable, the clutch should have a series of plates and are held in a basket with a big nut in the centre holding it on to the crank, remove nut and it all should slide off towards you. replace plates and replace every thing in the reverse order, when done make sure that there is 1/4 inch of play in the adjustment of the clutch lever. This means when you pull in the clutch you should not feel any resistance for the first 1/4 clutch lever travel. also when trying to undo clutch centre nut, put the bike in gear and put a steel bar through the spokes of the wheel held against the swing arm to lock up the engine to undo the nut and tighten it.
