Question about 1999 kawasaki ZX-6R Ninja

1 Answer

1999 kawasaki zx6 starts fine then rev's high when warming...

Recently, i have changed the spark plug wires to NGK and put on a rubber tube to connect the gas to the fuel pump underneath the tank because i accidently snapped the factor one when taking off the tank, but the problem is that I will start my bike cold, let it warm up, and when it does it jumps up to 6-8 thousand rpms. The it will dramatically drop start chugging then die. After that it will not start. The problem started occuring after i let the bike sit for 5 days straight. I have had some carb work done and my jets re-jetted because it has an aftermarket pipe. Anyone have good expert advice.

Hi, im not an expert but i have had this problem with a few 125's and a 250, if it has air chambers on the manifold of the carb to the airbox check they are secure with no holes and tighten up the clips, check the throttle cable tension and throttle body, this might help or might not but as i said im not expert.

My 92 kawasaki zx6 won't turn offer unless I pop the clutch

You either have a bad switch, a hot wire short feeding unwanted juice to the ignition system, or the pistons and cylinder head need to be de-carboned. Hot spots of carbon are continuing to ignite the gas even without a spark. Be sure the spark plugs are correct > NGK CR9E or use NGK C9E. Too hot a plug, ( i.e. cr7e ), will make the engine run at a higher temp. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

Ny nissan 1994 cefiro model has what you call hiccups when driving, fuel pump has been changed including spark plugs, change oil done, cleaned the air intake as well, still has the hiccups?

Did you change spark plugs wires? fuel filter? I do not know if your car has MAF sensor, but if it does, clean it. Use CRC- Mass Air Flow Sensor cleaner. also check Spark Plugs Gap and coil (s)

Spark plugs need changeing what type are best

Stock plug is NGK CR9E, but Denso Irridium IU27 is best. Cost more but better economy and starting.
Any manufacturer will have the equivalent NGK plug for your bike on their chart, with two or three types for your preferred riding style.
Cheers.

My kawasaki 400 bayou runs but doesnt have enough power that it u

I found all spark plugs do not work well in the Bayou, especially NGK....try a champiion spark plug..it may fix the problem.
My Bayou use to stall all the time with the NGK spark plug, but runs good with the Champion spark plug.

Running well at high revs would indicate that all the fuel and air it needs are getting to the engine and you also have a good spark. Probably no problem with air and fuel filter ( if fitted) or sparkplugs.

Running hot, and bad idling are signs of a lean air fuel mixture. The engine is probably not getting enough fuel at low revs.

This could be caused by an air leak between the carburettors and the engine. Check that the vacuum line to the fuel tap is properly secured at both ends. It is behind the fuel line at the tap.

Get a a short length of hollow plastic tube and use it like a stethascope - put one end to your ear and move the other end around your carburettor mounts with your engine revs as low as you can get, and listen for any sucking noises that would indicate a leak. Look for cracks in the rubber inlets.

The other possibility is that there is an internal blockage in the idling jets or idling fuel circuit. This is where dirt tends to lodge because the jet dimensions and passageways are very fine - The high speed jets are much bigger and dirt often just passes straight through.

Try a little bit of choke while the engine is warm to see if you get a stronger low speed response. If so that would point to an internal blockage.
