Question about 1986 Yamaha RD 350

Quad will not start electricly, and pull start binds?

I have a 1990 Yamaha Warrior 350, Me and a friend rebuilt the top end, with a high comp piston. Shortly after that, something in the starter system went? The starter spins, but will not turn over the motor? I can bump start the quad, but it sounds like the starter is engaging while the motor is running, and the same when I tried to pull start it, which was hard to do, cause the starter spun with the pull? I had the starter tested, it's good to go. I pulled the cover and inspected the first idler gear? It looks fine, but I don't have a puller to check the bigger behind the mag? Do you know what might have caused this problem, and what I should, or can do to fix it? I was told there is a one way bearing behind the mag that might be the culprit?

Hello, i agree with johnnyraptor, i have a 2000 warrior, i t has done the same thing, except my bolts didnt break, my one way starter bearing sound like it was sorta dragging, then it would break free, sometimes it would start, then it would just spin, had to pull flywheele, race and bearing is bolted to backside of flywheel, thats the big hex head screws that you see, when looking at flywheele, when you pull stator cover, sounds like you need oneway bearing, make sure not to put on backwards, have seen it has them for about 50.00 to 75.00 dollars, warriors about 60.00 ,mine came from yamaha, 150.00. wish i had found this other place before i bought mine...

Yes that would be the culprit!!!!! Mine went out on my 660 raptor.what really happens is the bearing blows up or your bolts get sheared off. in my case it was the bolts(all 5 of them). first take off the cover for your lower idle gears.then you will see the starter gear, move it with your should only turn one way.if it trns both ways.then you need to take off the left crankcase cover.and check it out.(i'll put money on it that you broke the bolts.)

Yamaha warrior 350 won't turn over

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Discharged battery, needs to be 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
4. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
5. Tip over sensor needs a reset.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.

Yamaha warrior bogs when i go over rough terrain and back fires

When the bike is on rough ground the engine is under more strain so this may be a sign that the spark plug, lead or coil is failing.

How do you set the timing on a yamaha warrior 350 atv

hello, get piston up on tdc, hold finger on spark plug hole turn engine untill finger blows off, that should be compression stroke. take screwdriver in hole make sure piston is all the way up, take timing cover off top gear, there is a v mark inside the motor , make sure gear marks and timing chain is all aligned upp, timing chaing should have a different colored link, aligned this with mark on gear-chain and the mark on the motor, it looks like a v or a point, you have to remone the top gear cover to see this, once they are all aligned it should be in time, piston has to be up all the way on compression stroke, really its pretty simple....

Yamaha warrior atv [yfm 350] bogging problem

Try checking the switch for your parking brake. It is the top wire in the clutch handle boot. This wire connects to your CDI box, and restricts the RPM's while the parking brake is engauged. To find out for sure, trace the wire down to the plug under the headlight assembly and disconnect it. Now try starting you machine and give it some throttle!
