There is a loud metallic rattle/clacking noise coming from my exhaust after the bikes engine is hot, basically after riding for 15-30 mins when I crack the throttle at a complete stop in gear or in neutral, doesn't matter, doesn't happen under load, only when I stop and rev the engine. It sounds like the exhaust is loose or something.

Sounds like the baffle is loose inside the muffler and when it heats up and expands you get movement. I would remove muffler when its cool and try to shake it and inspect it closer. May need a new muffler.

SOURCE: When I get on the throttle I hear a metal rattle sound

This sounds like pre-ignition, aka detonation and engine knock. Change to premium gas and put in a set of spark plugs that are one heat range colder than stock. It is good that you are handling this before the engine destroys itself. Yes, destroys itself. That is what pre-ignition will do. By the way, good description!

SOURCE: Honda CR125 Motocross bike throttle delay

ALWAYS have a fire extinguisher on hand when working on carburetors.
Drain the carburetor. There should be a screw on the lower side or bottom of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carb to fill with gas. Now pull the top cap off the throat of the carb and remove the large slide. There will be a long needle in the center of the slide. Remove the needle and then move the clip at the top on the needle down one notch. Two notches may be required but start with one notch. Put it all back together and try it out. Moving the clip downward richens the low end fuel mix.

SOURCE: 2008 Z750 bad grinding noise in first gear

It is possible that the first gear shift fork in the transmission is bent causing the 'dog-clutch' between two gears to just barely mesh. With engine off, push the shift into first and clutch lever released. Rock the bike back and forth to see if the gearing seems to be jumping in and out. There may be a problem with the shift lever shaft mechanism not allowing a complete shift into first gear. Hope this helps!

Remove both spark plugs and test each cylinder for compression. Just press your thumb over the spark plug hole and crank engine. A good cylinder will forcibly push your thumb away with a pfft sound. Likely you'll find one cylinder has no compression.

If you have a dead cylinder, remove the rocker arm cover and assess the damage. If you're lucky you'll find a push rod out of place with no other damage.

There is a metallic rattling noise coming from my exhaust when I rev the engine. This only happens after the engine is hot basically been riding for about 15-30 mins. The clutch can be pulled in and in...

In not an exhaust expert but it appears that after the muffler has had time to reach operating temperature, the internal metals have expanded enough to allow components to loosen and rattle around. Probably the core has sheared away from the internal supports over time. Wear and tear. Time for a new muffler?

I have rattle problem with my BMW R1200 Montauk motorcycle. It sounds fine on starting from cold but once engine gets hot a rattle develops. Williams BMW Manchester have suggested it could be exhaust...

I have seen a few of the R1200C bikes with this rattle.... There is a cat. converter in the exhaust system and it sits between the pipes approx. under the transmission. This is the usual cause of the rattle.

Warm the bike up by riding it around for a while, then stop the engine and use a plastic face or rubber hammer to tap on the exhaust system in the area near the transmission to see if you can hear a rattle or something loose in the exhaust. This should give you some idea where the source of the rattle is.

There is no easy fix for this problem except replacement of the offending parts.

how do you adjust the headlight beam on a xjr1300 naked 2002 bike, is it as simple as undoing the 2 bracket bolts at the sides of the lights and re-setting the lights to a new level ??
currently it seems to be set for riding with a pillion passanger or heavy load at the rear as the lights are set low, no one flashes me even if i ride at night with full beam on !

there are two things that cause this, one is the front engine pulley comes apart, this is very loud and comes from passenger side of engine, the next is the catalytic converter heat shield is broken.

Clacking noise at different engine idles on my Yamaha V Star

Lots of bikes make a clacking in the transmission , especially when cold at idle. Basically the engine accelerates and decelerates between each piston firing, and you hear the backlash in the gears slapping back and forth. Without hearing it I can't say for sure, but find someone else with a similar bike and see if it sounds the same.
