Question about 1979 Suzuki GS 750 E

1 Answer

Removing battery I recently bought a '79 suzuki gs550 and I do not know what to remove to get the battery out so I can charge it. I just want to see if it will hold a charge or do I buy a new one. I see that it sits under the main frame, so how I remove the side plastic plate that says gs550 on it? This is how I think it comes out. LOL ---- CAN SOMEONE HELP ME? ( male friend says , "Oh, you can do it, right?" and of course I say "oh I'm sure I can do it" --- LOL --- Thanx Julie

Julie the side covers are just pushed into rubber grommets be careful when prying out on the side covers on a bike this old they will be dry rotted.
and then when you see the battery I personally would replace it so I didn't get down to the local tavern and have it strand me

batteries are not really designed to last as long as they do
i have another suggestion for you as well
buy a battery maintainer and put it on the bike it will make the battery last 2 times longer something like this

Can i use unleaded petrol on my suzuki gs550 1979

Hi, Frank excellent question if your Suzuki owners manual specifies leaded fuel then you have three options replace the valve seats with hard stellite seats designed for unleaded fuel, run Avgas (aviation leaded fuel) or run unleaded fuel until you start having compression or smoking issues then replace the valves and seats, personaly I would opt for the latter as it would take many thousands of miles before you had an issue for more information about your question please visit the website below. Good luck and have a nice day.

I have a 82 Suzuki gs550 . Haveing starting issue . One day it ran fine the next day all it did was click once. Charged the battery it read 13.17 . Bought a brand new silinoid and installed it . Cleaned...

have you checked the brushes in the starter or cleaned the commutator? Best to remove the starter and have it bench tested at a local parts store.

Am looking ofr a copy of the manual - not a repair

Try this link, for download or for sale. Suzuki dealers can order them but they are often expensive if they say it may take six weeks. They have been known to source their own manuals from OEM partslist sellers who have remaining copies.

The following 2 links provide threads to these OEM sellers and have normal on-line shops. Cheers.

79 gs550 - uh ohs in wiring...

When you reassembled the bike did you pinch any of the wiring harnesses? Trace the wiring through the bike and make sure everything has a solid connection between their respective power sources and activation switches. Alot of time bikes run wiring under the gas tanks so you need to make sure that you didnt cut anything when pputting it back on (if you removed the tank)
