You have a bent shift fork. The repair means taking the engine out of the frame then removing the top end, removing the flywheel and electrics, removing the clutch , shift mechanism and kick starter and a few other parts. THEN you are ready to split the gearbox to remove the crankshaft and then the bent shift fork. Next you get to put it all back together. This is a pretty big job for the home mechanic.

You will need an impact driver, flywheel puller, case splitter and torque wrench plus the normal screwdriver, pliers, etc.. Alternate to the special tools is taking it to the dealer and say "Fix it".
I normally tell people to take it to the shop just so they don't get into such an involved project.

Please rate this solution. Thanks

1976 yamaha yz 125 not shifting properly.not staying in gear

If it does stay in gear when barely throttled but does not stay in while under load, the engagement dogs on the gears(inside the engine) are bad and the engine will need to come apart to repair it.

Trouble shifting

hopefuly your clutch just needs adjustment, because if it doesnt fully disengage you will have a hard time shifting. start with the cable adjustment and work your way down. also make sure theres not to much slack in the shifter pedal mechanism, they do tend to wear and get sloppy.check the gear oil level. if these three items are good, and still hard to shift, you need your tranny repaired

03 YZ 250 won't shift into 3rd

You have a bent shift fork. The repair means removing the engine from the frame then tearing it down into about 75 parts which will then allow the bent shift fork to be replaced. This is not a job for the amature mechanic. Wish I were there with you to guide the repair.

'99 wrangler has trouble shifting to 2nd gear - 4th gear occasionally slips to neutral

If you can see where the shifter goes through the floorboard, make sure the shifter is not hitting the floor.
There could be interfierence under the car also.
