Check Engine Light appeared; diagnostics resulted in PO455 code

If you Googled the code, you would find you
have an Evap System Gross Leak

If the gas cap was just loose the light will go out

The evap monitor only runs every few days,so
you may have to wait & see

I think you need to smoke the system & find the
route cause,vent solenoid,pressure solenoid,etc

I need to remove the gas tank for painting. It's a 4.5 gallon tank. Could you please let me know the step-by-step process? Thanks in advance.

First, drain as much fuel out of the tank as possible by removing the fuel line from the petcock. Replace that line with a temporary fuel line and route it into an empty fuel container. Open the petcock and put it in the reserve position.

Once you've got as much fuel out as possible, look under the front of the tank to see if there is a "cross over line". If so, use a clamp or a pair of vice grips to pinch the hose in the middle. Take the line loose at one side of the tank. Be prepared to catch the gasoline that has remained in that side of the tank with a funnel and hose routed onto the gasoline can. When finished draining on that side, remove the clamp or vice grips from the cross over hose and drain that side. If you bike is equipped with a quick disconnect in the cross over line, disconnect it. No fuel should come out.

Now, take the bolts out that hold the tank on. There should be two in the front of the tank and one in the rear. You may have to take the seat off to get to the rear bolt. With all the bolts out. lift the tank off the frame.

Good Luck
Steve
