Cant keep my RM 250 2 stroke running

It starts to turn over but cant stay started. We cleaned the carb and it ran for while but doesnt want to start now. We checked the rings and reeds and replaced them and still nothing. Seems like there is compression but just doesnt kick completely over.

    carb clean = good.

    fresh fuel?
    good spark?

what is the history of the bike prior to the problem? you rebuilt the top end after the problem(rings only)?
    will it fire at all?

See My Postings Elsewhere Concerning 2 Stroke Cranking And Running Problems Check Those Reeds Often. A Quick Way To Check Them Is To Remove The Rubber Duct From The Air Box Where It Clamps To The Carb. Exposing The Carb Throat . If You Can Keep It Running At A High Idle(1500 RPM) A Noticeable Amount Of Blowback (Oily Fuel) Is An Indication Of A Broken Reed. Replace With 2 Stage Carbon Fiber Petals. Use Lock-Tite On The Screws That Attach The Petals To The Cage. It Should Crank Easier And Idle Correctly. Try 1 1/2 Turns After Light Seating On The Air Screw(CARB).

2 stroke or 4? if 2 stroke definitely jetted wrong choking makes it rich tells me your main jet is too lean (smaller hole) you need to pull carb check jets for plugage clean jets write down numbers check dealer for correct jet size for your elevation if 4 stroke back fire thru carb indicates timing is off or bad intake valves or cam lobe worn

I have a 1991 honda cr 250 I cant get to start at fist gas ran right thru carb and out bottom i took carb apart and got the floats to stop sticking cleaned it out with carb cleaner put back together but...

try a new spark plug. if u fowl out a plug some time they will not fire under compression.2 strokes need. fuel, fire and air, very simple engines.it is possible crank seal are bad .that doesn't allow the engine to create vacuum in the crank case.thus fuel and air will not make it to combustion chamber.

Valve settings for rmz 250

Exhaust Power valve setting for stock is: 1/2 turn out from closed. **3/4 of a turn for extra low-end grunt. [all varies depending on jetting selected,..start at stock 1/2 turn out ... and X-periment from there] .

Bored maybe, but i doubt stroked. They usually bored them because they blew up the motor, as it doesn't make that big of a difference in power.
Did you check ALL of the passageways in the carburator to make sure they are clear? Also, see that you plug has a fat blue spark, light yellow is a little weak, and may be due to corrosion around the flywheel.
Also the reed pedals can stick and hinder performance, and last, make sure the air filter is cleaned and re-oiled with a good filter oil.

Kick starting is sensitive to fresh fuel. Tank should be completely drained

2003 rm 250 while holding gas at mid throttle it spudders

Install a new NGK spark plug ONE HEAT RANGE HOTTER THAN STOCK . Now go back to the 32/1 gas mix. The 32/1 is what lubricates the crank bearings and piston. At 44/1 you are asking for a seized piston and/or the need for new crank bearings. Be sure to use Two Stroke Engine Oil in the gas, NOT motor oil. Use premium gas, not regular. This should take care of plug fouling.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the two screws on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw holes as well.

Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two screws down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each screw one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. This process should get you back on the road.

Please rate this solution as " FixYa " if all goes well. Thanks
