1983-1985 Yamaha IT250K.
You need several things to get it to start: A clean carbuerator, a good reed cage, a good, clean spark plug, and compression.

Start by pulling the spark plug. If it's oily/dirty, replace it. Then kick the engine over, and you should get the motor to turn over really easy. Place the plug back into the hole, and the effort to turn the engine over should be hard, if there is compression. If there is no compression, you need to remove the cylinder head to find out why. It could be a hole in the piston, bad rings, or worse, bad crank seals. If the piston looks okay, then chances are the problem lies in the Mikuni carbuerator. It's an simple device, but you need to make sure the needle seals the bowl when the float level is correct. You also need to make sure your air enrichment circuits are free of dirt and varnish. Give it a good scrubbing. Once the carb is clean, and the float level is sound, make sure to check the air filter to ensure it is clean. The carb ensures fuel is correct. Lastly, there is spark. Your plug wire shouldn't have any cracks, and when you crank it over, there should be a spark from the plug. There is a remote chance that the pickup coil has burned out, but the ignition system on these old Yamahas is pretty reliable, so look there last of all.

I have a 2005 yamaha yzf r1 and my headlights, brake light, and turn signals do not turn on bike runs and everything are the fuses burnt out?

Hi, Tom if your headlight is not working, keeps burning out, blinking, or is dim the first thing you need to check is the headlight bulb for damaged filaments then check your light circuit fuse, then check your head light bulb socket ground wire for a clean tight connection, that being said the usual suspects are:
1. Faulty ground or power supply wire to headlight bulb socket.
2. Worn down solder contacts or loose fit of the bulb base in the socket due to vibration.
3. Worn, chaffed, or broken wires in the light circuit.
4. Corroded, broken, or loose pins/sockets in wire connectors.
5. Faulty hi/lo beam switch.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Fuse is good but no continuity on both sides.
8. Faulty wiring between battery positive and headlight bulb socket.
9. Weak charging alternator/generator.
10. Faulty voltage regulator/rectifier ground or overcharging.

My 2008 hyosung gt250r will not start but i can push it off and it works great and shifts fine and the lights go dim when the bike is not running and the brake light and head lights work but the blinkers...

short in wiring or switch causing battery discharge. charge battery to full charge . see if everything works right. ifturn lights
still dont work, un hook switch to turn signals . wait for the next
day and see if your battery has held charge . should read 12v
or 11.5v . if battery stays up switch maybe shorting out. check wiring for chaffing

I have an old Yamaha motorcycle that has been stored for many years. I do not know what model it is. I can find the serial number AS 1-305385. Can you tell me the model and year? I am trying to see if...

Older models have the build date and model on the steering head even a 73 will have the build date and the VIN and the country it's built in. not knowing what era your bikes in all *** bikes have the CC of the engine on the front of the block under the fins near the base of the cyclinder 249 cc, 348cc 174 cc 123cc, 99cc, 49cc If you tell me what cyclinders it has does it have an extenal oil tank does it have numbers anywhere like YM1 YDS3 . An AS1 would be a 100cc twin 2 stroke with an extenal oil tank and upsweeped pipes.

If the battery is good and able to hold a charge, then your problem is in the charging system. If the stator and wiring check out, then the regulator/rectifier is bad.

My bike won't start

First make certain the fuel is fresh ,and drain any old fuel out of the carb ,small screw at the bottom of the float bowl.when dry turn fuel on ,if flow starts again no blockage .start bike now,if no fix, remove spark plug if it is dry the carb is blocked . touch plug to cylinder head and start be carefull not to shock yourself use pliers . If no bright blue spark check side stand cut out switch ,kill switch . if the battery has been left uncharged for more than 2-3 months replace as wont work well. to check for seizure remove plug and push bike in first gear you should hear and feel the engine turn.

Find the model production year, usually found on the same plate as the vin. Then add one year. For instance if the bike was produced in 2001, then its a 2002 model.
