Question about 1996 Honda VT 600 C Shadow
I have been riding on bikes since I was three and just got my first bike. It's a 96 Shadow and has been sitting outside in Michigan for almost 10 years. Obviously it needs a lot of work but can someone tell me where to start... I am going to flush all fluids, change sparks, get new tires, and of course a new battery... Thanks!
Before you spend any money on it make sure the motor will turn over. Take out the spark plugs, put the bike in gear and see if it will roll. If the motor is frozen it will have to be rebuilt and unless you can do that yourself it will cost you more than the bike is worth to have it done.

If you have done your first time through checks, and all seems like its going to run take care of the fuel tank (trash or rust) and hoses.these can be real headache if you are on the road when they pose a problem (fire or leak). Have the bearings in the steering greased, and service any lube points. You only get one chance to stop,so be sure the brakes are in good condition (seals and hoses as well as pads and shoes). You lucky rascal! If you replace the chain be sure to get the gear and sprocket new too.Ride safe!
