Your valves are probably sticking many firebirds have had problems with the heads on the vehicles.. example my 91 firebird burned oil for over a year and a half before a head gasket blew out and consequently cracked one of the heads.. but now im jus down to getting past old vats security systems.. the heads on the vehicle are expensive, so take care of them, replacing the valves may be kinda expensive but is cheaper than hole heads.. also check for any gasket leaks or oil near the valve covers, could be a head gasket.. head, valve cover gasket, valve cover, oil rings a generalized area of where the oil is coming from would be helpful

Intercooled 3.1 1996 horizson. replaced turbo. still getting white smoke. water is overheating with in 10mins of driving. losing half to one litre oil.

the HONDA Horizon (Isuzu wonder box)
what engine. exactly .?
3.2 L 6VD1 SOHC V6
3.2 L 6VD1 DOHC V6
3.5 L 6VE1 DOHC V6
3.0 L 4JX1 TD I4
3.1 L 4JG2 TD I4
x1 or G2?

floods, wot cranking cuts fuel and starts any flooded engine,
it's overheating that wins the First order failures rule sets.
nothing else matters. cure that first.! find cause! first.

sounds (im deaf there, lol) that smoke is out tail pipe end and dissipates fast and is not smoke but steam, , oil smoke smells like burning oil and lingers. steam smells sweet like burning Antifreeze.
AF steam is a blown head gasket or far worse.
do a compression test first to see if it's even worth fixing????
most are NOT. (unless free labor, sure)

first learn steam from smoke
serious , watch moms tea pot. see that steam goes away fast.and very uniquely , now watch burning oil.
remove dip stick, drop the drip of oil on hot exhaust manifold.
smell that, that is oil burning, and lingers.
this will last you a life time of blown engines..... just one look and bingo. (my instructor in 1965 did in front of class)

got oil in the AF/ CARBON chunks in same.
water in oil, ? pan, engine . milky oil.
rad leak down test fail? can be lots of reasons even a cracked block.or head. not just gaskets.

I went to put oil in my 2000 Firebird notice a little smoke coming out where i was to pour oil do i have a serious problem ?

Most likely not. Those fumes/smoke are produced constantly by your engine. When it is running, the vapors are sucked into the air intake and burned with your gasoline. The PCV valve is designed to do this job but when the engine shuts off the valve stops drawing the smoke away and it just sort of hangs there until it settles.

PCV = "positive crankcase ventilation"

1995pontiac,firebird6cyl,sputters at 2000rpm

When you say "sputters at 2000 rpm" , are you referring to ANY time the engine is at 2000 rpm - meaning in Park, when you are just goosing the throttle, or in gear when you are accelerating, or at highway speed in high gear? If you are experiencing a "shuddering" in the engine at certain speeds/rpms - especially if these are speeds you regularly cruise at (long commutes at steady speeds), the problem could be in the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). They have a tendency to wear unevenly if you drive a certain steady speeds. Eventually, the problem would progress to an engine code, but it may occur without setting the check engine light.

Should the oil pressure gauge fluctuate with speed

The oil pressure guage will fluctuate with engine RPM. At idle it should be approximately 20 lbs./sq.in, at high revs about 50-60 lbs./sq.in. Hope this helps any concerns you may have. Good luck!

Oil light stays on until car warmup. 3 miles drive time at speed of 35 mph

not good, but do not panic until you check actual engine oil pressure

that being said...take the concern seriously because the light turns on when oil pressure is less than 10psi

have you changed your oil recently?
did you use the correct type 5w20

have you checked actual oil level?
I have seen a lot of town cars that burn oil and you may actually just be low

Check oil level first
Check oil pressure second

if both check out then you have an oil pump problem or a more serious engine concern

keep me posted!

Idles rough when coasting

Have you checked all the vacuum pipes around the top of the engine.?
It`s not losing oil pressure, it`s just about to stall when the oil light comes on.
Listen for a hissing noise under the hood.
Vacuum leaks can cause real problems with the inlet manifold pressures.
Good luck.
