Is it possible to clean the fuel pump of my 2002 Fatboy FLSTFI?

Try to check the switch contacts and Look at the open part of the ignition switch and if there is anything such as oxidation in green cleaning them and need to work the system.

To clean the carbureted model's filter, you drain the gas from the tank, remove petcock and filter, clean filter with compressed air, reinstall. The fuel injected model requires that you drain the tank, remove the entire pump assembly from inside the tank, and then replace the filter (it can't be cleaned).

The carbureted model's filter is supposed to be inspected and cleaned every 20k miles. The fuel injected model's filter is supposed to be replaced every 25k miles.

Remove the speed sensor at the left rear of the trans housing and clean off any metal shavings on it. Shavings get caught on the magnet and won't let the sensor read properly.

Remove speed sensor in G/Box (behind starter motor) clean the end of sensor as it will have metal filling on it which can stop the sensor from working.If no luck the sensor it self would have failed which is very common

take the fuel line lose at the carb not the tank to drain it

fuel filter is located in the fuel tank at the end of the fuel pump

normally if you dont hear the fuel pump when you first turn it on then it shouldnt start at all. sometimes if you know where the pump is you can turn on ignition and run switch while touching the pump, you will feel if it's working. if not, check fuses, may be just blown. if fuel pump is working but dont shut off when motor starts then its not getting enough gas, try changing fuel filter. as for the GUM Berrymans B12 seems to do the trick for me, get the fuel additive and follow directions on the can.
