Can I split the flywheel and replace the connecting rods with out pressing the flywheel from leftside crankcase on a2004 Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200cc
This is a job that I would not touch without spending the money on a manuel, it's the best $60.00 you can spend.
No That can.t be done. I don't think Harley even sells replacement rod sets. S&S rods will not work on Harley crankpins.
No you can NOT split the flywheels on that model without damaging the case half and the wheel. rebuilding a bottom end is really best left to the professionals anyhow no offense but a Harley will run as loose as well almost falling apart but they will NOT tolerate being to tight when they go back together and the 2004 XL models were an all new creation for that year with lots of special tools. I wouldnt risk it, that would be one best left to an honest shop.

Use new circlips, split pins and self-locking nuts for assembly.
