2003 saturn vue knocking sound in front of car, only when moving.

It doesn't sound like the engine itself is knocking. Because I changed the engine & tranny oil. When I start the car, no knocking, but as soon as I hit about 5 mph i hear a slight knocking...and the greater the mph the louder it sounds and the faster the knock. I'm guessing its the front wheel bearings but I'm not sure if its the inner or outer...ok, thank you.

My knocking comes from the back but in the same situation - 5 mph it knocks a couple times after moving. The dealership said it was my exhaust system expanding (sort of like the house creaking with change in temperature). I've had this VUE for 4 years - always knocked - but goes away after first three minutes or so and no other problems. Love my VUE!

Could be wheel bearing.. could be rotor or brakes..replace them all.. do it yourself save a grand. under 3 hours work.. even if 4 hours thats a big savings.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but mine failed at 29K and became undriveable at 31K and after years of hard handling, I treated that car like it was Christmas tree ornaments, fully expecting it to last until I am dead; the engine failed at 57,600. It's gone and I'm still breathing. It was the last GM anything I will ever own.

Saturn says and I quote

there transmission fluid is not to be changed after the first change at 6000 miles.

Now I say it should be changed at every 30000 miles. If changing out the fluid doesn't work then you need to go to a transmission repair shop.

I would take it in and have them do a diagnostic on it, sounds like the cam shaft sensor to me.

What you do, is take it to a shop and you drive and have someone ride with you to diagnose the issue. You never leave a veh at a shop with out a road test and a mech or tech that has some interest in finding the problems. Also run it on the lift in the shop to see if it can be duplicated. Preferablely on rollers on the ground, such as a dyno machine,, so as not to harm the drive axles, if that applies to your veh.

Knocking noise when in drive and stopped.

Hi,
1st thing - DO NOT DRIVE as you may be low/out of fluid.

Check both your automatic transmission fluid and your engine oil level. Both should be described in the owner's manual.

Loud clanking noises

It could be a loose heat shield on the exhaust system. They can sometimes come loose and rattle like crazy while idling.

AC Compressor

try having someone kill the a/c while you check for the noise. if it stops then check further into the compressor where you said you thought it was coming from. It could be the bearings in the compressor clutch going out.
