When my 2006 Pontiac Montana SV6's fuel gauge gets to about a quarter or a little less of a tank the van dies and will not start until 3 gallons of gas is put in the tank. Then it will start right up. It runs fine as long as you have more than a quarter of a tank. what could cause this. If you fill the tank up after this happens it will only let you put in about three quarters of a tank of gas. This lead me to believe that some trash, water, ect is in the tank. What else could cause this?

Sounds like at 1/4 reading, the actual reading of the fuel should be empty.Your gauge sending unit in the tank is most likely defective. Many are on these.

For the sliding doors you need to clean the contacts, there are 6 or 8 on both sides, just wipe them clean as they are probably covered in oil/grease/grime.

SOURCE: Changing the front brake pads on a 2006 Pontiac Montana SV6

no that is only the older rear calipers on gm and others. the fronts do not have that style caliper and sound like the calipers are frozen and may be way your changing the pads. try opening the bleeder screw and then compressing them if they go then you need need brake hoses and if not you need calipers. god luck man

1979 Ford F100 how many gallon of gas I should put in the gas tank to start the engine?

for any vehicle on the market, its only necessary to put enough fuel in the tank to register movement of the fuel gauge.
if you have added enough to see it move just a little bit, that is plenty, if the vehicle does not start, begin test procedures to properly diagnose the reason it will not start.
just a gallon can make most move, but if you have put 3 or 4 gallons is and see no movement, check the gauge circuit including the new float and assembly You have just installed

No idea iam a europeon mechanic but it sounds to me that you have bought someones elses problem and i would advise that you trade it back in and buy a nice little new car like a polo or a nissan or something as this beast has problems that no one could sort out so they traded it in and you have bought a pig in a poke and i wouldnt be surprissed if it oesnt cost more to sort out than its worth.

I am looking to locate where the fuel filter is located in my 2006 Montana so that I can change it

It's close to the fuel tank (about a foot towards the front of the vehicle). It's cylidrical and has metal lines coming into and out of it and is mounted on the frame.

Half tank run out of gas

sounds like you have a faulty fuel sender need to get it checked out sometimes they can just stick and be repaired worst case scenario is a faulty gauge
