Question about 2000 Harley Davidson FLSTC Heritage Softail Classic

1 Answer

My 2000 Sportster 1200 front right signal works fine. Rear right side does not. Checked at passthrough hole in chrome, and discovered wire broken. Do I just remove chrome piece to find rest of the wire to repair? Same chrome piece where saddle bag mounts go.

SOURCE: looking for sportster hard saddle bag installation instructions

nstructions Difficulty: Moderate Things You’ll Need:

Step1 Determine what type of saddlebags you will be installing on your motorcycle. Saddlebags come in hard and soft styles, with each installed in basically the same manner. Hard bags tend to offer more security for your items but are a bit on the bulky side, while soft bags offering a little more flexibility. Step2 Check to make sure that your fender bolt area is clean and prepped for installation of your saddlebags. Both hard and soft saddlebags on Harley Davidsons are installed over the fender bolt area on the rear of the motorcycle, so clearing this area of debris and grime will keep it free of scratches and blemishes. Step3 Install any spacers or lifting brackets before you try and place your bags on your Harley Davidson. These spacers will keep you bags from resting against your exhaust pipes and will avoid damage to your motorcycle and to the bags themselves. Make sure they are installed tightly and spaced properly before mounting your bags. Step4 Open the saddle bag packaging and lay out the included hardware. The hardware will be necessary to properly mount your saddlebags to your fenders, so be sure that you do not misplace it. If your saddle bag comes with a fender mounting bracket, install it along the fender before proceeding. This bracket will be used to hold and stabilize your saddlebags, so it is essential that it is properly tightened and installed. Step5 Hold your saddle bag up to the fender and align the bolt holes in the saddle bag with the bolt area on the fender. Your saddle bag will have mounting holes in the side of the bag that will align with the mounting bracket. Place one of the bolts in the hole and tighten to hold it on. Put the remaining bolt in place and tighten them both securely once they are aligned correctly. Step6 Repeat this process with the remaining saddle bag. The bags should align evenly and be attached straight to avoid any imbalances or shifting while the motorcycle is in motion. Try and wiggle or move the bags to be sure your bolts are tight enough to prevent movement. Step7 Take your Harley Davidson for a short ride. Stop and check the fitting on your saddlebags and look at your bolts. Make sure nothing has moved during your ride and that all of your fittings remain tight. With just a bit of effort, your new saddlebags will make your Harley Davidson the envy of the neighborhood.

SOURCE: Speedo, turn signals, brake lights, horn stopped working. All else is fine.

Gap your plugs to 38 thou. Check all your bulbs (one burned out will affect the rest) Take a look at all your fuses and make sure they are all ok. Otherwise you are probably looking at a wiring short which will require trouble shooting of the elctrical system. Buy your self a service manual for your bike, this will help you a lot.

SOURCE: removing stock rear turn signals on 2006 Harley Davidon 1200

I have not removed the turn signals from a model this late. There may be a nut between the fender and the fender strut. You may have to remove the fender to get the turn signals off.

Can not find fuse for brake light 2008 harley sportster 1200

Hi Anonymous, there is no fuse just for the brake light, it may have a brake relay located behind the left side panel. Always check your bulb first for broken filiment. Then check the connection at the rear fender wiring harness, inspect for corroded, broken or loose pins. Use a dab of dielectric grease and repair as necessary, check your brake light switches for continuity, some models rear turn signals were single filament bulbs only, no running light. If all else fails get out your test light and start tracking the power wire from the harness connection. Hi Bonniejeanst, always check fuses and bulbs first, you could have a faulty turn signal module or a bad turn signal button/switch, remove it from the switch housing and check for continuity, check your wiring and connections from the turn signal switch to the turn signal module with a testlite. Make sure all wires are not worn or pinched and connector pins are not corroded, broken, or loose. For a free wiring diagram please visit the website below. Good luck and have nice day.

I have a 2001 Harley Sportster and I had the LH rear signal light replaced at the dealer. The problem I am having is that the turn signal for the LH side does not work front or rear. When I unplug the...

The unit must be grounded to the bikes frame. Connect it back up to the bike this time without pinching the wires. You should have a blue wire, a violet/brown wire and a black wire if you have the three wire unit, minus the black with the two wire unit. The blue wire is for the running light, the violet/brown wire is for the turn signal and the black wire is ground. If you don't have a ground wire, the metal part of the signal light itself is the ground.

Good Luck
