Figure out where the oil is leaking from and replace the seal/gasket - Just a little too vague with where the oil is coming from.

Oil drips form primary case on 05 dyna low rider

Very little, if any, unless the trans was over filled, then the oil may come out of the breather hose. Did you check the shift shaft seal when you had the primary off?

What if there's oil dripping from the oil cooler hose? There is oil dripping!

have to determine if the oil is coming from hose end or dripping from higher up like the valve cover or even from the oil pan. If you did some work in the area check there first. Otherwise check for bad or cracked hose or if it came loose from vibrations in the engine. I hope this helps solve the dripping.

Transmission oil viscosity for fxdl harley davidson

This is a good question. Normally, the bike calls for 80/90 weight oil but the newer HD performance engines, transmissions and primaries use a good 40 weight in all three areas. I know of quite a few people that use 40W and they all say the bikes run cooler, shift easier, better performance and better mileage.

Small amount of oil on the bottom of crank case on the kickstand side! its not pouring but does run down the kickstand! bike only has 10k miles

The oil could be coming from anywhere. Just because this is where you see the oil doesn't mean that it's coming from there. When riding, the wind blows the oil around and sometimes you see it well away from where it's leaking.

You need to wash the bike paying particular attention to cleaning all the oil off the engine. Then, take the bike for a short ride of about ten miles or so. Check the plugs where the crankshaft position sensor and the voltage regulator plug into the case. Also, there is a large O-ring between the engine and the inner primary case. This could be leaking. For that matter, the cam chest cover could be leaking and running all the way across the bottom of the engine and dripping off.

A method we used to use was after washing the bike thoroughly and taking the bike for a short ride, we would powder the suspected area with foot powder or talcum powder. Blow off the excess but the oil would hold onto the powder giving it's source away.

Good Luck

Need to check primary drive level on my FXDL 2003 as have developed slight leak from drain plug.Is it shared with engine oil?

No, the primary oil seperate from the engine oil. To check the level, you must remove the derby cover and stand the bike straight up. The level should be just to the bottom of the spring in the clutch assembly. Now, look at the clutch assembly and you'll see that most of the stuff is bright and shiney. Just inside the outer hub, you'll see a dark colored flat piece. This is the spring. It is a circular spring, not the conventional wound spring people think of when talking about a spring.

Good luck

Oil leaking from the back of primary case

There are several things behind the inner primary case that could be leaking. There is a seal behind the inner primary where the transmission mainshaft goes into the primary. This seal sometimes starts to leak. Also, there are seals in the transmission in that area. The final drive gear seal is the big seal right behind the front final drive belt pulley. Somethimes this pulley wears on the splines of the final drive gear and it loses tension on the "quad seal" on the final drive gearshaft.

You'll nee some special tools to get to this area. You'll need sockets to fit the compensator sprocket nut and the clucth nut. You'll need an airwrench, a primary locking bar, and a torque wrench that will pull 150-165 ft. lbs. torque in forward direction, 68-80 ft. lbs. LEFT-HANDED on the clutch nut, a primary locking bar, a final drive sprocket locking device, a mainshaft nut removal tool, and some seal pullers and installers. Good Luck.

Have devolped a small leak on 2005 road king. drips from bottom of primary cover at drain bolt. running down from above. back of primary cover has slight oil dampness around transmission and starter shaft...

Spray it off at the car wash to remove all the oil , then spray Right Guard (Yes, that Right Guard) on the area of the leak. It will show up, but you may not be able to see exactly where. There are a couple spots where it can leak. The jackshaft oil seal, as you said, transmission output shaft (clutch shaft) on the trans itself, the inner primary seal where the trans shaft runs thru, the engine sprocket shaft oil seal, inner primary O-ring, the bolts that hold the inner primary to the engine/trans, the primary chaincase gasket and the drain plug. Hopefully when you get it apart, you will see which seal is leaking. If not, replace them all. Still want to fix the leak? LOL
