It sounds like you have a poor ground connection. You'll have to disassemble and check the wiring harness for broken wires, start up near the ignition switch or around anything that is no longer stock on the bike (like aftermarket turn signals, fuel nanny, power commander, etc.)

SOURCE: 1998 Honda Goldwing will not start nothing.

Sort of sounds like a Twilight Zone kind of problem doesn't it. I would have the battery checked for an internal dead short. This is something that happens on odd occasions and can happen even to a new battery. Yea, the little lights will work ( they do not draw much juice ), but the starter motor draws a lot of juice and a shorted battery just ain't got it. Also check the wiring harness connections. One loose connection can cause bunches of trouble.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, have you checked the last 10 Amps fuse? Additionally, check the fuse holder for signs of pitting, burns, corrosion or looseness. If a nogo, check/follow the orange/green wire (in some versions) from the fusebox.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

You checked the solenoid? (ont post hot all the time - the other post only hot when you press the start switch) Check the low volt wires from battery to solenoid and solenoid to switch and from switch to ground.

I think you will find your trouble.

Please let me know what happens.

Thanks for using FixYa.com

I have a 2001 Yamaha gp800r It sat for a year before I decided to rebuild the engine.now I have 140psi in each cylinder but I have weak spark. it has a new battery and plugs.i didn't have this issue

Well you have a few options here to try and fix this issue.

First I would check the kill switch boot and make sure that its still intact. If not then the kill switch is the problem.

Second thing is checking all the fuses

Third if all checks out ok, your going to want to run a few tests on your CDI. Once you open the front cover, there are two wires a black and a white. your going to want to disconnect those and then check spark or start. If spark/runs then its your kill switch if that does not work your going to want to get a manual and a OHM/multi meter and test your CDI

I have a new battery, starter will spin the engine but ther is no spark or display on the digital read out except the word "start". checked and changed the 10 amp and 20A fuse

You may want to look at your ignition control module on the bike. This could be the culprit. I cannot think of anything else in the system except for the starter, the wires running to them starter, the battery, the fuses, the ignition switch on the handle bars, the ignition kill switch, and the ignition module. Make sure your kill switch is not set to the off position and is functioning correctly as this will kill spark. Also check to see if your bike has a neautral safety switch as some of the newer bikes will not throw spark unless they are in neautral.

Yamaha 115 will not shut off with key or kill switch

not enough information on the motor. what year and model? but all yamaha outboards are shut down by the C.D.I. being grounded by the key switch or the emergency kill switch. the cheapest thing to test or replace is the key switch and the emergency kill. with more info on engine I can help you further.

1983 yamaha xj 650 no spark already changed the cdi coil plugs wires and mag pick up what next?

  • Do you see spark? If not, check the side stand kill switch. It kills the engine so that you don’t start out with the side stand down. If broken or out of adjustment, it would kill the spark. Check for a broken wire at the side stand switch and coupler. Try moving the side stand kill switch by hand. If that doesn’t work then wire a jumper around the switch to bypass it.
  • Is the handlebar kill switch on? Is it shorted out?
  • Are you getting power to the coils?
  • Check the fuses. How good is the battery? Try a jump start from your car battery.
  • Check the operation of the ignition switch and all kill switches with a volt ohmmeter. Check the wiring harness. Did a wire come unplugged? Are all wires clean and with solid connections? Any abraded or pinched wires? Is the bike in neutral and the neutral light is lit up? If no neutral light, check the neutral switch and neutral switch wire on center or side casing. If still no spark, get CDI system and coils checked at the dealers shop.
