Remove the oil fill cap, and there\'s a dipstick attached.

The cap looks like this:

01road king..probably have 30 to 40 thousand on it...Sounds like cam chain tensioner..about the only thing that will go wrong with your bike. I will assume you have oil etc in it...If you have not been running your bike stupid then nothing mechanical will usually brake on a Harley. Once again I assume its stock. You don't have an oil light on so I'll put my money on cam chain tensioner has exploded or is about to.

SOURCE: where is the oil dipstick on an 03 road king

The oil dipstick is located on the right side of bike almost directly under the football cover for the air cleaner. It's a round knob that pulls directly out (Kind of wiggle as you pull on it). Just check like a regular car dipstick pull, wipe and reinsert and then look at dipstick.

When it's cold in the morning. Shoot for halfway between full and add, cause the oil expands when it gets hot.

The drain plug is on the left side of the oil reservoir pointing towards the front of the bike. The motor should be warm when you dump the oil and the o-ring should be replaced as an extra precaution (don't want to waste that new oil if you have a drip). When replacing the oil filter use a piece of tin foil to divert the oil to your waste pan.

SOURCE: oil change procedure 2000 road king

the oil tank is on the bottom of the transmission in your RK. There are two drain plugs. The plug towards the front left of the pan is the oil drain plug. The other one is for the transmission.

Drain the oil, replace the filter, refill with three quarts of oil and you're ready to go. The dipstick has two marks on it. The upper mark is "FULL HOT", and the lower mark is "FULL COLD". Do not overfill.

Don't forget to service the transmission and the primary at their recommended intervals.

Good Luck

How to read sight glass for oil on 2007 road king custom

Hi Anonymous, the engine oil dipstick on later models unscrews, on earlier models it just pulls out with moderate force, on Softail and Sportster models the dipstick is located on the right hand front side of the oil tank and the Harley Bible says, engine should be at normal operating tempurature, let idle on jiffy stand for two minutes. Shut off engine and hold bike straight up and dipstick all the way in, correct engine oil level will be at the top full mark. Do not overfill oil tank as this will cause engine breathing issues. On Dyna and Touring models The engine oil dipsticks are located on the right front top corner of the transmission and the engine oil pan is underneath the transmission. The engine oil level is checked in the same manner as Softails and Sportsters. If you are having oil carryover or breathing issues (dipstick launch) try running oil level half way between the add and full marks, running the engine at this oil level will not harm normal operation. Good luck and have nice day.

2008 harley road king oil pan removal procedure

Raise and support vehicle with area at and behind the pan unobstructed, drain transmission and engine oils, remove pan bolts (may need a long ball Allen) and pull pan out to the rear. Should be able to do this without swing arm removal but may have to remove rear tire if there is not enough clearance with it in place.
