If a trouble code on a 2000 vw shows speed sensor and the test comes out good what is the problem

2000 VW cut off when hot and will not crank until cooled down. Plugged in OBD from trouble code P0322 (speed sensor) checking with ohms meter shows 1000. Shows correct reading. What is the problem?

Engine speed sensor could be faulty.engine speed sensor provides the ECM with a crankshaft position signal.the ECM uses the signal to determine a crankshaft reference point top dead center and calculate engine speed. engine speed sensor like the crankshaft position sensor.if sensor faulty fuel system wont work. a bad engine coolant temperature sensor will cause engine shut off when hot.

Check Engine Speed Sensor, or cmp
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2934505

This could be a magnetic or optical sensor. What it does is watches your Crankshaft for TDC (top dead center of the #1 piston) Then Ignition timing can occur because the ecu knows where the #1 piston so it can squirt fuel and ignite the spark. Also works in conjuction to your Camshaft sensor which allows the engine to breath. Note, without Air no combustion will occur in the engine, which gives you a no start condition.

In conclusion, If you find the CKP ( crankshaft sensor) and inspect its wiring. It could be scored since it is on the engine block and Also remove it and do a resistance test, to make sure it isnt broken internally.
If it is wiring Repair as needed
and if it is a faulty Sensor replace it and you should be good to go.

If you have a hard time starting it with out doing all the above, then try to crank the engine with the key for a few seconds, then stop, reverse the key and retry starting it. By this time the engine will have enough fuel vapor and heat that the top piston will ignite forcing the engine to start. Remember CKP only is used for ignition.
GOOD LUCK and keep me informed.

SOURCE: VW P421 code

This is a common problem with V6 Passats. VW put out a TSB on this a few years ago.
The code is telling you that your catalytic converter (driver's side, I think) is bad. It's more than likely not bad.

VW put out a TSB on this a few years ago. TSB 05-13. The cause of the error code is basically an over sensitive ECU (computer of car/engine) and the fix is to have your ECU flashed with the latest and greatest software. Depending on your mileage they might do it under warranty - you'll have to check.

It's still possible that it might be a bad catalytic converter - and the dealership might try to tell you that either way. Call VW (1-800-822-8987) and ask them about the TSB (I couldn't find it online).

Tell the dealership you want the ECU flashed - it's much much cheaper than a cat. No sense replacing it if it's not bad
There is a federal warranty on catalytic converters - 8 yrs or 80k miles...

Hope this helps!

2000 vw stalled now won't start

If all that Tyler has mentioned above is found good, then there is the possibility that your computer programming has failed. It happened to my 2002 VW and the dealer said that he had never seen it happen before. They reprogram in and your key/s and charge you for the reprogramming of your keys. Good luck!

I have a 2000 VW beatle showing a trouble code P0322 Speed Sensor. I checked with Ohms meter and received correct reading? Car cuts off when hot.

Speed Sensor has nothing to do with the engine cutting off
PO322 is a Generic Code for a Knock Sensor
You need to Google your codes & read up
An OHM Meter won't do anything for you on a Speed
Sensor, need a scan tool or scope
I would say you have an overheating condition to correct
& the knock sensor plays a role, wouldn't you think!
