Question about 1979 Honda CX 500 A
I have a 1979 Honda CX500 that I need to replace the keyed ignition switch on. When I bought the bike from a local shop, there were no keys to it. I also need to replace the lock on the gas cap as those keys were missing too. Lastly I need to replace the brake master cylinder and choke cable. Those look pretty simple. How do I replace the ignition switch? the gas cap should not be an issue, right? Hopefully this will not be a major problem and will be something I can do myself without taking it back to the shop and having them do it. any help would be greatly appreciated!
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

SOURCE: cbr 125 choke problem
It sounds like the choke line may not have been routed correctly when the new one was installed. Remove the gas tank and check to see that the line is not being stretched anywhere along the way AND that the gas tank when re-installed is not stretching the line. The line may have been kinked when installed. Look at the mechanical movement of the choke at the carb. Does it operate freely? Remove the air filter and look inside the center of the carb, (you may need to use a small mirror for this), does it look like the choke is opening and closing properly when the choke is moved on and off?

Remove the ignition switch and get to the bottom of the switch. There will be two letters and two numbers if I recall correctly. The dealer can get you a new key by referencing the numbers.
Please rate this solution. Thanks!

sounds like a wire has been added the wrong way or wires have damage, switch could be the culprit. Does the kill switch work? I would be checking all wires and the conectors for heat damage (melting). And fuses for all circuts. if low beam is used does key work to stop engine?
