SOURCE: 2001 kawasaki vulcan 1500 will not go into gear

You have found the problem, that saucer spring acts just like the pressure plate on the clutch of a standard transmission on a car. I had to replace one, and it was about $35.00. Good luck

SOURCE: 92 yamaha fzr 600r clutch lever sticks and clutch slips

Sounds like the bike has been doing wheeles and burnouts. As the clutch plates wear the cable needs adjusting. You have reached the end of the actuating cam. New plates are your best bet.

SOURCE: My 2001 yamaha R6 motorcycle dies as soon as i let

I wonder if maybe the kickstand switch is bad letting the bike think the kickstand is down. When you let out the clutch it shuts of the engine as if the kickstand is actually down.

SOURCE: oil leak at inner primary

06 Road king inner primary leak where shift lever comes out, seal was leaking...Under warranty fixed no charge, no further issues!

I have heard of this same leak on the V-twin Harleys due to normal motor vibration "unbalanced" which is normal on the older models the 2008's and newer baggers have a differant mounting system that eliminates the vibration/ jumping/ loping/ which again is a normal Harley engine

Knocking cluch

How much free play on the clutch cable or is it hydraulic? You must have some free play, if you do not this could be the cause off slipping in 5th gear. Also if all the plates look good , not flaked or burnt, the proper thickness, then you need to check the clutch pack clearance: this is .010 per plate set (one friction/steel). some clutches need to be shimmed to reduce the clearance. Then you can sand/ up the steel plated with 60 - 100 grit sand paper on both sides and put in new springs or a stronger aftermarket spring set. I hope this helps. As for the noise I would ask a dealer as I am not to sure about that. Thanks Rod

Yamaha wr426 2001 No 5 th gear fine in 1234 changed clutch , new kit . And 5 th gear slipping still?

I would revisit the clutch adjustment especially the clutch cable for smooth sliding and no kinks in the outer cable. gear 5 is normally an over drive gear which requires most power from the engine so a clutch not properly set will be tending to slip, as it will be heated and will be fading. I would look closely at the cable being hung up from the internal wire fraying and jamming on a bit.

5 speed manual transmission wont stay in 5th gear ,

can be lots of things,,, 4wd or 2wd, must i guess that?

let me guess, easy, and cheap first. ok? no need to go hog wild on guessing, at your expense ,no?>

  1. all vitara/tracker/sidekicks, all have the 2 plastic fittings in the shift box, go, well, to dust, or crack, and then the shift lever bounces and goes out of gear or in fact was never fully in 5th gear, detents.

  2. loose bottom rear transmission mount, (beat to death)

  3. shift rails failing, (detent failure (springs and balls)

  4. burned up fork on 5th gear, due to running trans dry. or near or GL4 fluild looks like, tar and metal filings ; ever consider do ing the service on that, drain and fill, running it on 24year old gear lube?

  5. the 2 front rubber plugs love to fall out (glued in) and then GL4 slowly is lost and gears/bearings and forks are wrecked.

  6. bad 5th gear bearing, rear.

  7. bad 5th gear front bearing. if flops about, and jumps out of gear.

  8. 5th gear synchro ring, broken, causing ill fitting 5th gear DOGS

bearing 30 and 31 are the 2 bearings mention above.

the last guy with 5th failing gear 35 , spins were wrecked.

running trans near dry,. expensive fix. with new cluster 26

see plastic 27 below.

that page even shows how to run and shift trans with extension housing off, to prove the box is good or bad, such a deal , no ?

Dead clutch lever

The clutch cable actuates an axle with a gear at the other end. This gear bears against step gears on the thrust rod, which pushes against clutch. Make sure there is a circlip at BOTH ends of this axle. When replacing cover, ensure axle is returned fully with handlever out, and spring is in place on actuating fulcrum of the axle. Thrust rod must bear against roller bearing of the clutch pressure plate. Make sure step gears engage at first tooth when operating handlever. The above link provides an exploded view of the entire bike in appropriate sections as an aid.

1997 RAV 5th gear drops into neutral when gas throttle is released

If it only drops out on the over run only then its due to either the selector ball and spring on the selector shaft (spring gone weak )., or 5th gear scrinco worn out and needs replacing or the spigot shaft (input shaft) bearing worn allowing the shaft to move forward 3mm on over run, or a worn clutch plate can help cause the same problem.
THE ANSWER IS gear box out ,strip out and rebuild and both bearings on spigot shaft, and check clutch plate springs for wear.
