How to service water valves

If the washer won't fill or fills very slowly, if it overfills, or if the water is the wrong temperature, the water inlet valves could be faulty. These components are easy to locate and very easy to replace, at little cost. When you suspect an inlet valve is faulty, first check to make sure the water faucets are fully turned on and properly connected to the hot and cold inlets of the valves. Then check the screens in the valves; if they're clogged, clean or replace them. If water doesn't enter the tub, set the temperature control to the HOT setting. If there is no water, set the control to the WARM setting. If all that comes out is cold water, the hot-water inlet valve is faulty. Reverse the procedure to test the cold-water valve, setting the control first on COLD and then on WARM. If the tub overfills, unplug the washer. If water still flows into the tub, the valve is stuck open. In any of these cases, the valves should probably be replaced. To check the valve assembly:

- Remove the back service panel and disconnect the hot-water and cold-water hoses to the valves.

- Remove the hoses connected to the valves inside the cabinet. Also disconnect the wires from the terminals. Back out the screws holding the valves to the machine. The inlet valves have solenoids (a coil of wire that carries a current) inside the housing. These can be tested, but chances are the valves are simply worn out.
- Tap the solenoids with a screwdriver. If this doesn't work, replace the entire inlet valve assembly. Repairs usually cost more than a new part. Make sure the replacement valve assembly is exactly the same type as the old one. Install it in reverse order of the way you disconnected the old one.

Set valve clearance on 21hp briggs and statton

Valve clearances are set by either tappet screws in the lifters or on a lot of small engines, clearances must be set by either cutting out valve seats with a special cutter tool (to DECREASE clearances) or grinding the end of the valve (to INCREASE clearances) and generally are from .008-.010 on intake valves and .010-.012 on exhaust valves. Check engine specs to insure proper clearances.

How do I set the timing

Are you trying to set the ignition or valve timing ? The ignition timing is factory set and changes with engine rpm - you can set the air gap between the flywheel and the ignition unit which should be around 0.25mm (0.010") Excessive air gap will retard the ignition timing. Unless you\'ve had the engine apart, the valve timing won\'t need re-setting. The valve clearances will need setting from time time and the clearance between valve and rocker is 0.1mm and is adjusted with both valves closed and piston at the top of it\'s stroke - you should replace the gasket and copper washer at the same time.

Find tdc and adjust valves on a 325 i

With the tappet cover off, rotate the engine in the normal direction of rotation until you see #4 cylinder valves rock - open/close in succession. This will be TDC on #1 - set the valve clearances. Turn the engine until your see #2 valves rock, set #5 valves, turn the engine till #6 valves rock, set # 3 valves, turn the engine until #3 valves rock, set # 6 valves, turn engine till #5 valves rock, set # 2 valves, turn engine till #1 valves rock, set # 4 valves. Once you have located #1 TDC (the second mark in the pulley should be lined up with the cover mark), it is only 60 deg. to get to the next cylinder to set. If you accidentally go past the setting point, go back and approach the setting point again in the direction of engine rotation. When you come to setting # 6 the TDC marks should be aligned again.

I have an old Jandy JI2000 system from 1993. Our spa is not blowing out bubbles and I'm not sure how to make them come out with more force. Also, I am wondering which setting the valves should be on. there...

Without seeing a picture of the setup it is nearly impossible to tell how the valves should be set. The bubbles problem is most likely the blower, or a check valve problem. Upgrade you blower to a 2 HP. The valve settings should not affect this if the pool/spa was plumbed properly.

Apparently valve not working, how can I check it?

sounds as though the thermostatic radiator valve is stuck although the valve settings can be set to max. sometimes hitting the side of the valve will free the stuck spindle & get it working again.

If not a drain down of the system & a new valve fitted

Kindly
