Frame or engine should be connected to negative on battery. therefore connect to the frame or engine and you have your earth. If you think the earth is faulty make a temporary connection from engine mount to battery negative to see if that works

If your installing something new to your bike and it says to connect it to earth it usually means they want you to connect it to the frame of the bike. FYI earth/negative is connected to the frame at a few points depending on the bike.

there must be a earth connection it should be connected to the motor and frame ,have a look around your battery area there should be one there if it was running ,if it is a project bike then you will have to put in earth wires cheers

Hi all I've got an earth issue don't know much about bikes I've got a kmx 125 b12 I know their rare thats what it says on the logbook, all I want to know is where abouts is the earth that goes in the frame...

Most systems are the same the negative of the battery is connected to the frame by a heavy 60amp cable,
quite close to the battery, the engine is bolted to the frame 'so that gets an earth', then earths are connected to the frame or engine as required, earth wires are generally grouped to earth points to frame, ie: under tank near head stock, under seat near back light cluster. Hope this helps

different on different bikes but in general make sure the bike is connected to the neg on battery, from engine or frame. if unsure make a temporary connection from engine mount bolt to battery negative to see if that works

My kdx has a electrical problem it starts no problem and runs fine the problem is i want it to charge the battery. i just cant seem to find the ground wire it says the black and yellow wire is ground but...

sounds like a double earth/live wiring loom

some bikes have 2 black wires bolted to the frame 1 is earth and the other is live i know what you are thinking but it works

look for a double wire bolted to the fram proberly be under plastics by seat

Bike wont start. all i hear is a click like its about to start but nothing happens. battery is fine also. thinking it may be the spark plug. hoping its nothing expensive. any help would be awesome

Sounds like a Bad Earth connection. Check all the battery and earth leads where they connect to the Battery, Engine, Starter Motor and Frame. If possible disconnect, clean and reconnect.

Hi, I've just reno'd a couple of bikes and I found that the powdercoating on the frame and various brackets, along with fresh paint, really messed with the standard earthing set-up. I ran an extra earth lead from where the battery earths to a bolt on the cylinder head. I also had to add extra earth wires to an IT 250 tail light assy.when new plastics and grommets were added everywhere. Hope this helps, cheers.

the battery earth to the bikes chasy may be dirty check all battery leads are clean and tight plus any to the frame,,,

Hi,how can i check that my coolant fan is working ,it got to 100 degrees and it didnt cut in ,thanks

the fan wont cut in till the engine is very hot,,, well over 100 degrees near to 120! if you realy wont to test the fan out pull the bike up on its stand and leave it ticking over,,, it should take forever before the fan kicks in,,,my bmw has only ever switched the cooling fan on once in 3 years!!!! and that was after standing with the motor running in a traffic jam for 35 minuets !!! but if you wont to find the temp switch pull the plug off the switch and short the two plug pins out with some wire that will start the fan up,,,watch your fingers,,,you only get 5 free fingers on each hand with each body,, and there are no spare parts going cheep?

Battery wont stay charged

Ok this is probably one of two things either you have a bad earth on the bike causing a poor re charge rate or your alternator / magneto has gone up the spout ?.
If it is a bad earth you will probably be getting other symptons as well for insatnce rear bulbs blowing or headlight bulbs blowing ..horn or starter ( if fitted ) works intermittently you get the picture . check around the bike to all points where the loom attaches to the frame or the engine ( usually black wire bolted to earth ..= frame ) remove and check wires then clean the area it was attached to with a bit of sand paper / emery cloth and refit especially the one from the battery Minus side Black ?. that will go straight to frame somewhere . If it stays the same after you do this you need to check the output of the magneto . with the bike running place a multimeter on the battery terminals voltages should be any where between 12.volts to 13.5 or higher check specs in manuel if not then Magneto / dynamo / alternator faulty finaly if all else fails ( and this was left till last as you said it was new check the ph of the battery ie sometimes new battries should be full of acid but are not .. just water I have had a few .. especially if they are the none maintanance type . .. hope this helps Regards vortash
