You realise this is posted in motorcycles?? anyway fuel doesnt shut off more air is intaked when you open the choke hence causing a leaner mixture maybe your main jets are clogged. i think they are removeable. do you have any manauls for the carb?? if not try to find some more information on it.

SOURCE: klx 110 2006 stalls when choke is pushed in

i'd say the carb is gummed up especially the pilot jet (#16158) in this pic of the USA carb. may have to remove the carb & bowl and then remove the pilot jet (w/ flat head screw driver) and clean out the tiny holes.

-OR-

the carb slide is installed backwards (turned 180 degrees). its #16025 in the pic. i've done this before on my daughter's XR70 and Z50. you'll know if its this when you move the choke lever, RPMs increase and decrease.

hope this worked for you and was fast enough.

Hard to start then would only run with choke fully closed. Open choke or put even the lightest load on the motor and it shuts down.

The fuel jet in the carburetor is plugged. The carb needs to be cleaned and the fuel passages need to be cleared with compressed air.

If you take the fuel line off at the carb and crank the engine, does the pump push fuel out of the line ?

I have an edelbrock 1401 500 cfm manual choke carb it needs adjusted. How do I adjust it to get more power and mpg? It is on a chevy 305 also

The only way to deal with these bad boys is to re-jet!!! go on line to RIPSPEED or alike give them your car details and your needs for the carbs and a jetting kit will be sorted for you.Just remember with more power the less your M.P.G!!!! Good-luck...

190cc series 675 lawn mower wont start..pour gas in carb runs for 2 seconds

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly

Just by searching I think this is your engine number:
126T02-1045-B1
This should be your parts manual: (3.01 Mb)
http://www.briggsandstratton.com/document/index.aspx?doc=MS3728_G_LO.pdf

Most likely the main fuel jet orifice that is inside the threaded area of the Fuel float bowl nut has debris in the pin-hole of the orifice.
Remove the Fuel float bowl and spray carb cleaner using the spray tube directly into the center of the bowl nut area to remove the debris from the main fuel jet orifice. Clean the Fuel float bowl and the bowl nut. On this unit the bowl nut acts as the main fuel jet so any debris in the bowl nut will restrict fuel to the engine. See items 117, 118 and 236 on page 3 of the manual above for location.

Additionaly make sure the fuel shut off on the bottom of the fuel tank is working properly Remove the output hose and check for feul flow. (item 958 bottom right page 3 of the above link)

I think once you clean the float bow bowl and nut that it should work properly. If your still having problems I need to know if this has a primer bulb, Choke Lever or is an Auto Choke carb.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

New to me 98 HD Springer, any tricks to starting in colder weather? Manual says not to give gas, what do the experts say?

"Manual says not to give it gas". This is correct. If your bike is equipped with fuel injection, the electronics control the fuel in a cold weather start.

In the event your bike is equipped with a carb, you must allow the enricher (choke) to do what it is designed to do. Allow me to explain how it works on a carburetor equipped bike.

A choke and an enricher circuit do the same thing, start a cold engine with an over-rich fuel mixture. But, they way they accomplish this is completely different. The choke is a plate in the mouth of the carb that limits the air intake of the carb making the fuel mixture rich. An enricher is a completely separate circuit within the carb. It has it's own venturi that runs parallel to the main venturi. When you pull the enricher, it opens this venturi and a fuel port that comes directly out of the float bowl. This supplies the air and the fuel to start the engine. But, it will only do that if the vacuum is pulling air through this venturi. If you "give it gas" or open the main venturi, the vacuum pulls the air through the main venturi rather than the enricher venturi and the engine does not want to start.

So, this is how I tell people to start their engine when it's cold. First turn on the fuel at the petcock. Then twist the throttle grip twice and go back to full close. Pull the enricher out, turn the switch on and use you index finger to push the start button. Do not open the throttle (give it gas) at all. The bike should start up and go to a high idle when it does start. The point is, when starting a cold engine with the enricher, do not crack the throttle open at all. Leave it shut. If you open it the lest little bit, it renders the enricher circuit inoperative. Leave that throttle shut.

Good Luck
Steve

Edelbrock 1406 3 years old on a Chevy 350 corvette. Starts and runs great when cold but when it heats up to running temp. and I shut off the engine it will not start!! Has great spark, compression, and fuel....

Check the choke and make sure that the choke is all the way open when hot. The choke should only be closed when cold. The choke can be adjusted on the side by loosening the 3 screws and wathcing the butterfly valve.

I am going from a qudrajet carb to an Edelbrock 600 with manual choke. I am not sure how the linkage switches over. I am working on a 1985 chevy 4x4 with a sb 350

If your staying with the stock intake manifold the edelbrock wont fit unless you install a adapter plate. And i would advise you not to install it will not seal properly.I would install a edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor as a matched set.You can purchase a edelbrock carburetor and intake manifold from advance auto parts that's designed for your vehicle.
