Remove battery terminals and clean both posts and terminals
with sandpaper until you see shiny metal. The black coating is lead sulphate which has a high resistance to current flow both into and out of the battery. It may also be necessary to ensure that the battery is fully charged first

Testimonial: "yes all clean, but it clicks once when i press start where the 2 fuses are and battery wires go there also a black cube"

  • Bill Boyd Jul 23, 2013

I am guessing that the black cube is a relay . If so it will have 3- 4 wires underneath it To will go from the start switch to earth and the other 2 will go from the battery circuit to the starter solenoid. check both fuses as well.

Will not start, battery is new, it just clicks and nothing. turn it off, try again and nothing, try again and it starts

Try cleaning and tightening well the battery connections along with the battery wires to the solenoid and starter motor.

Bad connections and low voltage of 12 volts can result in this anomaly.

98 ford expedition, installed a new battery but click once when ignition switch is turned and lights shut off, but comes back on after a second, won't start with new battery

Could have a bad battery cable . Too many people are too quick to replace the battery. Try also cleaning your battery connections with baking soda and water

When I turn the key to start it clicks once under the dash and then nothing.

Try to hook the battery up to a battery charger or another car and let it charge for a bit. Sounds like you are trying to start the car and the battery does not have enough voltage to start the starter motor. New battery sounds likely, but jump it to see if it will start. You could also test the battery with a multimeter if you have one. Should read about 13 volts DC.

in fact only turned over once befors starter was clicking away. Pushed it home tried again - nothing. Put battery on charger - charged up in 15 minutes - tried to start - engine turned over couple of times then click click click at starter been out this morning checked all connections and earths - charged battery up - read 13.22v when full charge light came on, tried to start up - turned over several times, getting slowwr then click click. Checked battery reading 12.17v Any suggestions - is it the battery or what else?,The fact that the voltage drops as the revs increase is very odd. However, the dash voltmeter which I assume you are using is often inaccurate. Try an alternative battery, at least to see if it starts. You could use a car battery with jump leads. With a decent battery the charging might improve too.,,,
