Make sure you do not overfill the primary. when putting the oil in the primary, have the bikes standing as straight up as possible. Add oil only until it comes to the bottom of the clutch spring. If you put too much oil in the primary, the oil will get in between the plates when the clutch is released and act like the oil in a automatic transmission torque converter. It will continue to drive just enough so that you cannot find neutral with the engine running.

Otherwise, you must make sure all clutch adjustments are correct. Loosen clutch cable all the way. Adjust clutch release adjuster behind derby cover, all the way in and back off one half to one complete turn, readjust cable for 1/8" freeplay.

1998 cbr 600 f3 neutral light wont come on and bike wont start with kick stand down


Looking for some help got my 98 cbr 600 f3 a week ago parked it at my grams it rained bike fell over neutral light wont come on and won't try to start with the kick stand down please help

Why does the 30 amp circuit breaker behind the battery box on my 1990 fatboy click once when i push the ignition button? The bike won't start.


Try to reset the circuit breaker. also check for an earth fault on the starter motor .If this is not a circuit breaker and is a relay, you should make sure everything is ready for a start, (ie : in neutral, sidestand up and clutch in and that the battery is charged.) the neutral light being "on" doesn't mean it is in neutral. I hope this helps.

Bike starts and runs fine but after a 20 min run and i go to put the bike into neutral the green light does not come on but bike still runs.then when u turn the bike off and back on again the green light...


There is an electrical switch that senses when the transmission is in neutral. The switch may be defective causing this problem. Check the electrical connections to this switch. If they seem to be secure, replacement of the switch may be warranted.

Where is the neuitral indicator switch on a 93 harley fatboy


Ok, the neutral light is in the dashboard, a green colored "N" that lights up when the transmission is in neutral.

The neutral switch is in the chrome transmission top cover. It should have one wire running to it and it simply screws into the top cover. I think it will be best seen from the right hand side of the bike and is on the front side of the chrome cover. Hope this helps.

Fob on 2004 fatboy


The FOB is a security device that will help protect your bike. If it is far enough away (i think 20 feet) your bike will not start, Without the FOB the fuel pump will not run and the lights will flash on and off. When you come back to the bike with the FOB the bike will run normaly. So do not leave it with the bike unless you want it gone when you come back.

98 fatboy engine noise.


Harley's do run hot, anywhere from 220 to 240 normally, and a little hotter this time of year. I suggest running a straight weight oil, and a little heavier weight in the summer. I use Valvoline VR-1 30 weight most of the year, and 50 or 60 weight in the hot summer, and I use Lucas 20w50 primary/trans for the primary and tranny. I don't bother with the extremely high prices of the HD oils. For the whining noise, you need to determine which side of the engine it's coming from. Whining will almost always be in the bottom end. There's nothing in the top end that should whine, and if there is whining from the top, it's usually an air leak around the carb. Start by checking the fluid levels in the tranny, and primary. These are the two most common areas to pick up a whining noise. If it's coming from the left, it's going to be in the primary, and usually this is caused by low fluid levels. From the right, it's going to be either the tranny, low fluid, or the oil pump. The oil pump is a gear type system. If you're running a light weight oil, say a 10w40 or HD 20w50, when the engine heats up and the oil thins, it can cause the oil pump gears to whine a bit, especially in the summer heat. So, check the fluid levels, if they check good, then change the oil, since the summer is coming to an end, go with a straight 30 weight. This should clear up the whining noise. If it doesn't, get back to me with the exact location the noise is coming from, and we'll go to the next level of diagnosing the whine, but I believe that this will cure it.

sounds like your neutral safety switch on your brake pedal is wearing out.it can be adjusted to engage the brake pedal sooner.thanks for using fixya!
