Question about Yamaha Motorcycles

No spart at plug on 2004 Yamaha TT-R 225

I also have a Yamaha 2001 XT 225N(C) that has the same motor and most parts interchangeable. '04 will turn over with start, but no spark at plug. I have tried: 1. checked fuses and traced out wiring to be sure there were no faults. Everything looks OK. 2. different spark plug that works in the '01. 3. installed new coil. 4. swapped CDI with the '01 ('01 ran fine with the CDI from the '04 model). 5. swapped Stators (complete crankcase covers swapped) between the '01 and '04. ('01 ran fine with the '04 stator. What am I missing here?

SOURCE: no spark

It sounds to me like the repair shop has connected the ignition wire ( the wire going to the + side of the coil ) to the wrong switch terminal. Take a volt ohm meter and connect the ground wire to the negitive ( - ) side of the battery and expose the ignition switch terminals. With the switch in the OFF position check for volatge on all the terminals. Make note of any terminals showing a 12 volt reading. That is probably the feed line from your battery. Turn the switch to the ON or RUN position and check for a terminal other than the one which gave you a reading before. note and mark this terminal. Locate the coil. There are 2 thin ( 18 guage ) wires attached to the coil. One goes to the distributer and the other goes to the ignition switch. Isolate that wire and reattach it to the connection on the ignition switch you marked earlier...
Good luck,

SOURCE: NO SPARK ON A 98 RM 125

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, test for the presence / absence of below described voltages using an analog / needle type voltmeter when starting the bike:

  • pulsating low AC voltage coming from the pickup coil;
  • pulsating voltage feeding the ignition coil.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

SOURCE: Husaberg (FE 501-03)Stator problem

I have never heard of a stator preventing a motorcycle from starting. You need a professional, local, second opinion before you plunk down any bucks.

Unless that is, are you calling a magneto a stator? Does your motorcycle have a battery? If it has a battery, you probably do not have a magneto.

Yamaha xmax 125 problem starting mornings kept in garage over night not catching just turning over tonight backfiring loud bangs and event starts any idears anyone

Hi, Scoobywrxlj5 and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery should have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead acid batteries.
2. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
3. Faulty main circuit breaker and or connections.
4. Faulty ignition coil and or connections.
5. Faulty spark plug, oil or gas fouled, wrong heat range or service type, wrong gap, loose in the cylinder head, broken electrode or insulator.
6. Faulty spark plug cables, leaking or broken, internal damage check for spark leakage in the dark.
7. Faulty ignition module, switch, CKP, MAP, CMP, sensor and or any connector in the ignition circuit could have corroded, loose, or broken pins/sockets
8. Burnt exhaust valve or air leak in the exhaust system.

hello, check and see if plug is firing a blue color, if not you may need a stator-pickup coil, i have a 2000 warrior, it is firing, orange and white color, stator neede to be replaced, pickup coil was going out, also check ign coil, these have a problem with getting weak after a while. most likely it is your stator pickup coil, no blue fire from plug, no running the motor. my stator pickup coil was going out. no blue fire from plug, i was told by a yamaha mechanic, no blue fire from plug it will not run, has to be blue, not orange or white looking fire.make sure carb is clean and all jets inside are clean, and air passage ways
