SOURCE: 85 honda shadow 1100 Ignition fuse burns

you have a bad fuel pump. your fuel pump gets turned on by the blue wire that runs from your coil to your spark unit thats why the fuse never blows with the coil disconnected. i had the exact same thing and wasted a lot of time looking for a short that was never there and even tried a new spark unit and fuel cut off relay before i replaced the fuel pump.. fuel pump 65.00 money wasted on other things 350.00 and a lot of time. have your fuel pump tested with a 10 amp inline fuse and if it blows then u will know for sure

Try cleaning the two position switch. It's called the starter button. You push it in halfway and the headlight turns off to allow for more juice to go to the starter. Push it in all the way and it activates the starter solenoid. It is probably either dirty or broken.

If the engine turns over at a good rate but there is still no spark, you are more than likely looking at a problem with the coils. Check them with a multimeter, but also check HT leads and plugs! Oh...and if there is an engine kill switch. That one has had me more than once in the past!

There is one more fuse near the battery, check the starter switch on the handle bar if you have 12V coming in to the switch.

1984 Honda shadow 500 won't start.

Hi, Anonymous before testing any electrical component in the Starting System it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage, the battery is faulty and must be replaced. AGM type batteries fall into this scenario more so than lead acid batteries.
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
4. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
5. FOB battery low or dead.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand, clutch, neutral safety switch.
9. Security alarm needs a reset.
10. Starter relay, solenoid, starter have failed or circuit wiring faulty.
11. Starter armature or field coils have failed.
12. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
13. The electric starter is working but starter clutch has failed.
14. Check for engine trouble codes.

Won't Start 1998 Honda Civic EX 4 cl - 5 speed. Has plenty of start power but won't turn over. Could it be a distributor cap problem or a fuel pump. I have tried to push start, it has gas, stuck and...

Hi Tim,

I'm not sure what you mean by plenty of start power, but I'll try my best to explain things. If this doesn't help, reply back with answers to the following questions:
-Do the belts in the engine move when you try to start it?
-Do you hear any noises when you try to start it? (a single click, repeated clicking like a machine gun, etc)
-Do the lights on the dashboard stay illuminated when you try to start it, or do the flicker?

If the car will not turn over, it is usually a lack of electrical power (discharged battery), a failed starter solenoid (the switch that supplies power to the starter), or the starter motor itself. The only "non electrical" problem would be if the engine itself was seized.

If the engine turns over (the camshaft turns), then yes, it could be a distributor cap, ignition coil, ignition coil wire(s), or fuel pump, just to name a few. Your best bet would be to get a service manual for your specific model Honda and follow the troubleshooting guide in it. This will prevent you from throwing money away on parts that may not need to be replaced.

I hope this helps! Good luck!
