Question about 1999 Honda GL 1500 SE Gold Wing

How to check goldwing1500 front brakes?

When I apply the rear brake pedal, there seems to a little rubbing (but not quite grinding noise) coming from the front brake. it's most noticable a very low speeds (even with motor off). The wheel is smooth. The brakes (both front & rear) work good. But what is that noise? Also, how do I check the front bearings? How & where do i grease the bike? (Where r the grease nipples?) Lots of questions for you. I hope I get lots of good answers! Thank you

As you know, the front and rear brakes are independent of each other ... engaging the front has no impact on the rear and vice versa. Is your disc drilled? When I apply the front brakes on my bike, I can hear the noise generated as the pads pass over the holes in the disc ... could that be what you are hearing?

SOURCE: 00 CBR F4 brake lights dont come on when applied

Have you tried powering the brak circuit itself at bulb. If it comes on then you need to find broken wire between light and switches. Since neither work if you can trace to where they meet break should be behind that.

SOURCE: my 1991 interstate front end

sounds like weak fork springs go to progressive springs and do the fork seals at the same time and that should stop the wobble, also check your local bike shop to see if the wheel is out of balance

How to check front brakes on 1500

To check the wheel bearings you should put the bike on the mainstand and grasp the wheel at 3 and 9 o'clock, then give it a wiggle then do the same at 12 and 6 o'clock. This will show up any play in the bearings. Just an aside- it will help in the future if you ask the question in the correct section and give details of the make and model of the bike.

Rear brakes make a grinding sound when the brake pedal is being released. The noise is gone after the pedal is fully released but then comes back again after the brakes are applied again and then being...

I would say that the grinding you hear is metal to metal, pads to rotors. You need a brake job NOW before this gets worse and more costly. Good Luck Friend.

New brakes and rotors still makes a grinding noise

If you have eliminated the noise coming fom the rear brakes, then the sound in front could be the wheel hub or bearings. When the brakes work, there is a certain amount of centering that happens when the brakes grab the rotor. Also, it puts stress on the CV joint to have Brakes on one side and Transmission Torque on the other.

You need someone to check these 2 items for roughness.

Grinding noise from rear. Brake pads? Bearing maybe? Seems to be coming from the passenger side rear wheel area. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Have the rear brakes inspected. These are real easy to change if they need to be. You need to look under the car just outside the differential. This is an inboard brake system so the wheels don't need to be removed.

Grinding noise front end.

I say it's the CV joints. You have to jack up under the lower A-Arm, to take the spring pressure off of it, to check them.

(Use jack stands, and wheel chocks behind the rear tires. Emergency brake On. Work on a hard level surface. Be SAFE! Trucks can be replaced, YOU cannot!)

Did you check the rotors to see if they were cracked or 'thin' ? Rotors sometimes get really thin with use.And they can crack. Or as in one case that I know of there was sand between the rotor and the pads. The pads were also new. Removed the gravelly sand and they worked fine.
