2009 yamaha 950 v star won't start

Make sure you have petrol, if plugs and fuses are OK do lights work?

If you turn on the lights do they remain bright? Have you made sure the engine stop switch is in the run position. Is the stand switch working OK also is the clutch switch working? Do you have to pull the clutch lever in to start the bike normally if so this could mean the switch at the clutch lever stock is faulty, or come loose. Find the 2 wires that go into the clutch stock and gently pull on them nothing should move. If the wires pull out with the switch connected to them, push the switch back until it clicks. If everything seems OK in that area try spraying some lube between the clutch lever and stock the switch plunger might be sticky and not coming out properly.

Have a 2003 yamaha v star classic 1100. After about 10 miles when stopping at a light the revs go high until the bike comes to a complete stop. After stopping the revs drop to normal.Another thing I noticed...

Hi, Eugene_imric and the usual suspects are:
1. Throttle cables improperly adjusted or pinched.
2. Idle adjusting screw needs to be backed off.
3. Intake system air leak.
4. Fast idle choke ramp is not releasing.
5. Broken throttle return spring.
6. Damaged diaphragm or slide.
7. Faulty MAP, TPS, ATS, O2, VSS sensors or wiring/connector

Bike wont go past 10,000 rpms. power just shuts out.

These bikes have rev limiters to keep you from blowing the motor. they are supposed to do just that, shut power off if you rev the engine too hard. Usually it cuts out and re-starts very rapidly and you get sort of a Vroom, Vroom , Vroom sound that lets you know you are reving it too much. If you continue to push the motor it will shut power off. 10,000 rpm is a lot of rpm and this could cause major issues with the motor. you don't want a piston to come loose at this rpm!

If you turn the key on, you should get a strong headlight, horn and brake light when the battery is strong. If these are weak, then the battery is dying. If the battery is strong, hitting the start button should turn the headlight OFF momentarily. If there is no change or the headlight is not coming on then the starter button could be damaged. The battery voltage should stay above 11 volts when you are cranking the engine or loading the electrical system with brake light, horn or high beam activation.

The starter solenoid is down by the battery and if you jump across the big two terminals with a screwdriver (bike in neutral, please!) that will jumper the battery power directly to the starter motor. If the battery is good, the starter should start to spin the motor over. If the battery is good and there is no sound, then the starter motor is bad. If the starter motor spins over, either the starter solenoid is bad or the wiring to it is defective.

You need a a 12v test light to check the starter solenoid wiring circuits. A good Volt meter will tell you about the state of the battery (should be over 12v resting), as well as whether the charging system is working, once you have determined that the battery is okay. You need to monitor the charging system once the bike is running to see if that is part of the problem or not. It should crank out upwards of 13.5 volts when you rev it up to about 2,500 rpms.

Check the web for V-star forums and groups who may know about any problems unique to this model.

If it wont do anything then it is likely that youve popped a fuse
But it sounds like the battery isnt being charged properly. Make sure the voltage across the batt terminals is at least 13.5v at tickover rising to no more than 15.5v at higher revs
