My 2001 x5 wont stay running when I press the accelerator.

Hello Tom,

A dirty throttle body will produce your described symptoms.

A can of carb cleaner should sort that out or eliminate the throttle body as the source of the problem.

Here's a general video on cleaning a throttle body:

Loss of power on dash and operates only at idle no matter how far i press on the gas pedal

Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) System Description
You have APP- accelerator pedal position sensors or one of the Throttle position sensors is going bad ! In the (TAC) system ! This is drive by wire or electronic throttle control . If you take it to the dealer or a ASE certified repair shop they can check the DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes ! This is nothing for a DIYer to mess with ! This system can set 7 different DTC'S

Reduced Engine Power Mode When the PCM detects a condition with the TAC system, the PCM may enter a reduced engine power mode. Reduced engine power may cause one or more of the following conditions:
?€¢
Acceleration limiting--The control module will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the vehicle acceleration is limited.

?€¢
Limited throttle mode--The control module will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the maximum throttle opening is limited.

?€¢
Throttle default mode--The control module will turn off the throttle actuator motor and the throttle will return to the spring loaded default position.

?€¢
Forced idle mode--The control module will perform the following actions:

-
Limit engine speed to idle by positioning throttle position, or by controlling fuel and spark if throttle is turned off.

-
Ignore accelerator pedal input.

?€¢
Engine shutdown mode--The control module will disable fuel and de-energize the throttle actuator.

My Toyota Quantum 2.7GL idles but does not rev up. i ve changed the fuel pump and filter but still it starts, idles but does not rev up when you press the accelerator?

We do not have this model in US, but I assume it is a new model 2016-17. You throttle (and the "rev" ) is controlled by the computer. The fact that your car is idles - should mean that your computer is fine! There are two types of idle control: 1st- when you have a bypass of the throttle, which lets the throttle flop stay close while idling and let's the air into the motor through a bypass and electronically controlled idle switch. Inspect your throttle - the electronic/metal unit located on the large pipe through which the air gets into the motor: if you have a "bypass" for the air then you need to inspect your throttle body as it could be your problem.
2. most likely you do not have a bypass and your idle is controlled by your throttle body, then it is sure working fine and your only issue is that your engine computer does not know that you press the accelerator. Your gas pedal has an electrical unit on it which connects to the engine computer- inspect the connector/wires if all looks fine most likely your accelerator sensor does not work- you need to change the gas pedal unit ( I think it called accelerator sensor).
Good luck.

My 124 260e A/T merc benz starts fine and accelerates fine and runs fine for the first 4-5 minutes. After which, no matter how I press the accelerator pedal, there's just no speed/throttle. Hence

When driving a 2004 ford taraus, there are times that the accelerator seems to stick and the vehicle will keep accelerating without pressing on the accelerator. So far the idle air control valve has...

Check make sure the throttle cable is not binding inside..I would watch the throttle cable and with the vehicle off mash the throttle several times ,make sure its returning back to position..Also move the throttle under the hood and remove the duct work and make sure the butterfly valve inside the throttle body is not loose from the linkage outside

Mazda 323 fuel injection1994 accelerator problem

Try changing the fuel filter. If it clogs up the engine won't get the fuel it needs to run at wide throttle openings, the engine will ****** the timing, and you'll lose power. With less throttle the filter can flow well enough for the engine to run properly.

1994 honda civic 1.5 16v stalling after pressing accelerator from idle

Another place to look is your IAC, or Idle air control valve. It is bolted to the back of the intake manifold, and can be removed and cleaned. It is usually the cause of most Honda Idle problems.

Accelerator catches/sticks when depressed. You must then press very hard to get it past that point.

go under the hood and manually move the accelerator to see what is binding it.

If you dont know how to do this then get an assistant to press on the accelerator (car does not have to be on) and whatch for the part that moves as he accelerates. Manually move this to find the binding. Please note that it is possible to have binding with in the cable assembly back to the foot pedal.

Good luck

Accelerator sticks

Take off the throttle body (very easy to do) and use carb cleaner to clean off the gunk. You have to clean both sides of the butterfly.
