Question about Motorcycles

No spark this is the second time i am on here but i believe i am narrowing it down to the solution. My bike has been sitting in my garage over 6 months without start. I have just taken it out to start will not start. I changed the battery, spark plugs, also the fuel. After hearing from you i have took the bottom bowels of the carburetor and cleaned them out. All is good their, still no start. Where i am at now i checked my sparl plug to see if there was a spark and there was NOT! So i went to Harley shop and bought another coil and still no spark and still will not turn on!!! Any suggestions? The fuses seem ok, i switched them around being two have the same amp and the other two are the same as well. So now i am leading towards the crank position sensor. Need advise.

I am thinking that the kill switch on the handle bars is in the kill position. Most bikes have on the rh side that you can flick off in an emergency and it kills the motor. many times I have been caught with mine as it can move when you are pushing out the bike.

IT sounds like it is the pickups not working (.telling it to spark) if not then it will be CDI UNIT OR ENGINE GENERATOR COILS

hi, each lead has the specific number on it. if you do this correctly then they genrally give you an idea to where the sit in the coils( the way they bend :-) ) also i believe the coils are better off been attached to the frame once you are sure leads are in corect order and possitioned correctly in the coils.i just presumed the coils neaded earthing. make sure battery is pleny charged as a bad battery can just hinder. it is also very easy to flood the bike so just check the plugs again. if they are unusually wet then dry them off and try again . otherwise maybe try cleaning all electics.

no your totally wrong the backfire is bcause if u juice the throttle there is excess fule in the cylinders witch give it no where to go so it ignights and creates a backfire witch is not necessarly bad.

Hi, John if your bike has been sitting idle for months or years and you did not do any pre-storage maintenance I feel your pain it will probably have a dead battery and not want to start or if it starts it will idle and run poorly, here are the following steps necessary to complete in order to get your bike back to an acceptable running condition.
1. If your battery was 2-3 years old when you last had the bike running you should replace it.
2. If you believe your battery might still be serviceable remove it from the bike and put it on a 1 or 2 amp trickle charger for 24 hours. If it is the old lead acid type with visible cells and acid levels fill each cell to the top line with distilled water and replace the caps, run the vent tube into a plastic or styrofoam cup, any cells that are cloudy/milky replace the battery.
3. After charging remove the leads and let the battery sit for a couple of hours then check the battery voltage with a volt meter, you should have 12.5 volts or better, any readings in the 11 volt range you need to do a proper load test on the battery and replace as necessary, any readings in the 10 volt range you have a dead cell and replace the battery.
4. Drain and flush fuel tank, google " how to clean a motorcycle gas tank" find a couple forums to view the different options available.
5. Remove your air cleaner and clean and re-oil per Mfg. specifications.
6. Remove the carburetor, disassemble and decontaminate with a carb dip or if you have EFI remove injectors and clean with carb spray and compressed air
7. Remove fuel valve and filter disassemble and clean as necessary, remove fuel lines and replace with new ones.
8. Replace spark plug with a new one and check for spark.

2007 Honda Shadow Fuel Valve Damaged


Hi Steve, probably the latter and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. Fuel supply valve/petcock turned off.
3. Fouled spark plugs.
4. Engine flooded as a result of over use of enrichner.
5. Vacuum hose to fuel supply valve/petcock disconnected, broken, cracked, or pinched.
6. Fuel valve/petcock or filter clogged.
7. Discharged battery, loose, corroded or broken battery terminal connections especially the "NEGATIVE" cable inside the harness at both ends.
8. Loose or corroded wire connection at the coil, battery or plug between ignition sensor and module.
9. Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting, cable connections loose, or connected to the wrong cylinders.
10. Ignition timing incorrect due to faulty ignition coil, ignition module or sensors (MAP, CMP CKP and/or BAS).
11. Sticky or damaged valve or pushrod wrong length.
12. Primary cam sprocket spline sheared or missing spacer.
13. Security alarm needs a reset.

A little shot of quick start, or WD-40 in to the throttle body intake when it won't start, will at least let you know if lack of fuel or spark is your culprit. If it fires up for a second or so after a spray, then it's fuel delivery related. Helps mechanic narrow down area of trouble.

Where is the ignition coil on a 2004 BMW R1200CL


I believe that you will find the coil under the tank right at the front of the bike.Follow the spark plug wires to narrow it down.I have a R1200C and this is where I think BMW has placed them on all their 1200 series bikes.good luck

well ive fixed this problem multiple times with my bike it definantly sounds like your carbs need to be cleaned, when u leave a bike sitting for a while and leave gas in the bike it will clog up your carberators once those are cleaned the bike should start right up

have you tried bump starting your bike in second? is there pleanty fuel in the tank? is your petrol turned on replace your spark plug. replace your ignition coil, replace your cdi unit... just keep going down these lines to narrow down you probem, sorry i cant help more but you were not very specific

Has the bike been sitting??? If the carbs are gummed up from sitting and the float and or float needle get stuck in the "add fuel" position it could cause this

What new parts were fitted? Were there the same issues before the parts were fitted? There may be a compression isssue due to a poorly fitted part. This will become evident as the bike becomes warm and parts start to expand with heat.

700c tyres are bigger than 26".The tubes you need measure 700x28 (to32).This size is used in Hybrid style bikes.Make sure you get the same type of valve(Schreader are the same as car,Presta are narrower)or it won't fit the hole in your rim.
Make sure when inflating that the tube isn't trapped between the tyre and the rim.Only inflate to the pressure written on the sidewall of the tyre.

Fuel injected right? Sounds like you have some fuel injector issues now that the gas has varnished them up. Use stabilizer in the fuel anytime the bike will sit that long without being ridden.
