Mine quit also. Yes it's common for the speedo drive to go out. You can buy a new one basically any where. I switched to a digital wireless odometer. They are originally for bikes but also work on mopeds.

Any ideas why my speedo doesn't work ??

Hi, James baffling isn't it for such a simple mechanical apparatus lets break it down:
1. Speedo works validated by the drill.
2. Cable works validated by the fact it's new.
3. Speedometer drive is all that's left needs to be validated by disconnecting the speedometer cable from the speedometer, getting the front wheel off the ground and spinning it to see if the new cable is turning in the housing, my guess is the speedometer drive unit tab is either broken or not properly indexed.
Good luck and have a wonderful day.

Odometer not working on 1997 suburban

Hello BDG, The answer is no. If the VSS fails on your 97 Chevy, you will lose both speedometer and odometer functions. If your speedo is still working and your odometer is not, you have a broke odometer. This is a common failure with a lot of the older vehicles that were fitted with the mechanical odometer registers. Feel free to contact Kincer's Service for a repair salution.

Speedometer goldwing

Before you remove the instruments, check that the speedo drive cable is in one piece. There will be a knurled barrel on the back of the speedo, undo and pull the metal centre out. Then measure the length of the cable and check the length of the cable outer. if the inner is shorter, replace the inner.

Blower motor and speedometer quit working at the same time and transmission will not shift. What do thses 2 have in common?

They have nothing in common , but if the speedo is not working the trans will not shift , you need to check the speed sencor located on the trans.

My speedometer just quite working one day after i didn't drive it for 4 days and my engine coolant went from half full to almost empty.

the coolant problem will be a coolant leak somewhere in the motor like water pump, frost plug as indicated with the cooling system being half full when parked and not full.the speedometer not working is just coincidental and is a separate problem,it could be the speedometer cable may have stuck or seized the drive gears at the transmission for the speedo cable maybe damaged or the speedo electrical portion at the transmission may have a problem if it has wires at the cable connection.

My 1991 Honda accord speedometer just decided to quit. Twice it then started working and then just dropped to zero. Any ideas?

Speedometer cable needs replaced. It is very easy to do if you have a little common sense and a few common tools.
The cable runs from the speedometer to the transmission, Just purchase a new speedo cable and remove the instrument cluster, Look at the backside of the cluster to find the cable to the speedometer, Remove it as you follow the cable to trans replace the same way it was removed and reinstall cluster.

Speedometer on my 2002 suzuki volusia quit working. digital clock and numerals still show.

Sound a lot like a broken speedometer cable, a fairly common problem.

Take the cable housing off the wheel, and at its other end, and check to see if either end has broken off. Many speedo cables have the ends squished into a square shape, and the shoulders of that squareness are what drives the cable at the wheel end, and drives the speedo mechanism at the other end. Check to see if that squareness has been rubbed round, rather than square.

If this has happened, replacing the cable will fix you up, but the problem will happen again, soon. If it is broken or worn, either the cable is not turning easily in the housing, or the speedo mechanism is too stiff to turn.

If the speedo end is broken, the mechanism is the problem. If the wheel end is broken it can be either cause.

My speedometer quit working. The sensor is clean.

The easiest way is to take the speedo cable off and inspect it. If the speedo has a cable, it's a mechanical speedo. Unscrew the cable at the either the speedo or the speedo drive mechanism. Pull the inner core out and examine it for damage or wear. the ends of the cable are sort of square as compared to the rest of the cable that is round. Make sure the cable is not broke or the square ends are rounded off. If the cable looks good, lubricate it with wheel bearing grease and reinstall the inner cable back into it's outer sleeve. If the cable is good and working as it should, that leaves nothing else but the speedo.

Speedometer and tach stopped working 92 honda accord

Since the Speedo and Tach both quit working and they use separate sending units, I would be looking for a common electrical plug they share under the dash behind the speedo. When you find said plug check to make sure that it is plugged in securely. if it seems to be plugged in well unplug it and then replug it just in case the contacts were getting a bit dirty or corroded.
