It sounds like a bad piston ring or bad spring on the intake valve.
as the engine cools down oil can seep into cylinder chamber .next time you start engine the oil burns (causing smoke out the pipe)

Suzuki 12valve smokey engine?

Could be valve stem oil seals, could be piston rings worn, could even just need a tune, best advice without seeing the car run is to go to your local mechanic with the car for their opinion

Too much smoke from my nissan b 14

first: fill up motor-oil! The engine is smoking If you pay attention to the colour of the exhaust smoke, you can make a preliminary diagnosis as to what's wrong with the car:
  • The engine smoke has a distinctive blue colour.
Probable reasons: wear of the cylinder-piston group, valves, valve guides, valve stem seals, sticking (carbonization) of piston rings, wear of bearings of turbine supports or seals in turbine engines, absence of spark in one of the cylinders (malfunction of the electric circuit).
  • The engine smoke is white.
Probable reasons: moisture in the engine and exhaust system, malfunction of the cooling system. Insignificant smoking by cold start (especially by cold weather) is considered normal. If the engine continues to smoke even after being warmed up to the operating temperature, it is necessary to take the car to a service station.
  • The engine smoke is black.
Probable reasons: malfunction of the fuel system, it is necessary to take the car to a service station for a diagnostics.

White smoke from BMW 740i exhaust

white were? the exhaust tip, or other spot, long pipe, name spot?
white, is steam or OIL.
oil smells like burnt oil and takes for ever to dispate
steam is water, and smells , sweet due to 50% glycol inside.
and goes away fast.
but all Gas engines make water at all the time running as a by product of combustion and for sure on cold days, some times full time cold
due to climate effects.
does your neighbors car smoke at same time, (look)
bingo , dew point.

all gas engine smoke cold started, (steam)

so first find out what it is,
take the dip stick out of a hot engine. stalled, drip it on the exhaust
see that smoke ,smell it? that is burning oil
now you know what you have, steam or oil. smoke.

4g15 engine carburetor smoking only when engine is cold

smoking from where?, front of car, middle or tail pipe.

is this your first car, or first car and first winter (white steam?)
there are 3 kinds of smoke
black , carb flooding (ask why)
white, oil, burning, take for ever to go away
white steam, goes away fast and smells like Antifreeze, sweet and nasty.

and all carbs smoke black in the tail pipe end, when cold, unless
you very carefully tune the choke plate.
so do tell? what?

1995 Oldsmobile 88 LSS 3.8 smokes at idle

Valve stem seals. Oil is thicker when cold (hence no smoke when cold) Vlave stem symptoms are when engine at idle (high vacume) oil is pulled through the guide seals, when you take off from lights get bit of smoke until oil is burnt. Ring symtoms is it would be blowing smoke all the time especially at higher rpm for extended time ie: driveing. Have you thought of trying a thicker oil? what oil grade do you currently run?

Engine smokes when cold.but runs great, all gauges show engine is running normal, engine only has 39,000miles on it

White smoke is the result of burning coolant and the blue is a sign of burning oil. A common cause of this is a blown head gasket.

This could also be caused by bad valve guide/valve seal that allows oil to seep into the cylinder while the vehicle is off. When started the smoke will come from the xhaust as that oil is burned. Within a minute or so the smoke stops because no oil is seeping intot he cylinder.

Check the plugs for signs of coolant, oil, or burning.

My 99 cougar smokes

You have to determine why it is smoking and what the smoke means. White smoke almost always means you have coolant entering the combustion chamber. The exhaust will smell sweet. I am not referring to the white smoke you see when it is cold and stops after awhile, as that is condensation. I am talking about white smoke you see when it is not cold. Stop driving the car immediately or you will have serious engine damage.
Black smoke is the result of an overly rich fuel/air mixture and can be caused by many things.
Blue smoke is an indication the engine is burning oil. Normally caused by worn piston rings.

Heap of white smoke on startup but not always

White smoke usually occurs when there is not enough heat to burn the fuel. The unburned fuel particles go out the tailpipe and typically produce a rich fuel smell. It's not unusual to see white smoke in the exhaust during cold weather until the engine warms up.

Faulty glow plugs or control module can cause white smoke on engine start up.

Low engine cranking speed may also produce white smoke.

If white smoke is still visible after the engine has warmed up, the engine may have one or more bad injectors, retarded injection timing or a worn injection pump.

Low compression or air in the fuel system can also be a source of white smoke.
