My RPM meter is not working...it's always on 0.

I used to have a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse with the same symptoms; my mechanic replaced the speed sensor ($65) and the problem went away. Take the car to auto zone and ask them to plug the computer, they normally do it free of charge. If it is the sensor, you may have to buy at the dealer.

Have 125 raptor ajs, will not start when cold

Hi Tugay, and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. Fuel supply valve/petcock turned off.
3. Fouled spark plugs.
4. Engine flooded as a result of over use of enrichner.
5. Vacuum hose to fuel supply valve/petcock disconnected, broken, cracked, or pinched.
6. Fuel valve/petcock or filter clogged.
7. Discharged battery, loose, corroded or broken battery terminal connections especially the "NEGATIVE" cable inside the harness at both ends.
8. Loose or corroded wire connection at the coil, battery or plug between ignition sensor and module.
9. Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting, cable connections loose, or connected to the wrong cylinders.
10. Ignition timing incorrect due to faulty ignition coil, ignition module or sensors (MAP, CMP CKP and/or BAS).
11. Sticky or damaged valve or pushrod wrong length.
12. Primary cam sprocket spline sheared or missing spacer.
13. Security alarm needs a reset.

1995 Chevy 2500 TBI 350 4X4 Long Box - 50K actual. when i started it, i lost the speedometer readings - ABS light came on and stayed on and stays in second hear and doesn't want to shift properly ...

Hi, it is likely your speed sensor has failed or the wiring is broken. The speed sensor is mounted near the rear of the transmission and has 2 wires attached. Check to see if the wires got pulled. If the wires look good, you can test the sensor if you have some jack stands to put under the back wheels. Make sure the transfer case is set to 2WD. Test procedures are pasted below. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

OPERATION

The vehicle speed sensor is made up of a coil mounted on the transmission and a tooth rotor mounted to the output shaft of the transmission. As each tooth nears the coil, the coil produces an AC voltage pulse. As the vehicle speed increases the number of voltage pulses per second increases.
TESTING

See Figure 1

jturcotte_2211.gif

Fig. Fig. 1: Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) and vehicle speed signal buffer wiring diagram

  1. To test the VSS, backprobe the VSS terminals with a high impedance voltmeter (set at the AC voltage scale).
  2. Safely raise and support the entire vehicle using jackstands. Make absolutely sure the vehicle is stable.
  3. Start the vehicle and place it in gear.
  4. Verify that the VSS voltage increases as the drive shaft speed increases.
  5. If the VSS voltage is not as specified the VSS may be faulty.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

See Figure 2
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disengage the electrical connection.
  3. Unfasten the sensor retainers.
  4. Remove the sensor and gasket or O-ring.

To install:
  1. Install the sensor with a new gasket or O-ring.
  2. Fasten the sensor retainers.
  3. Engage the electrical connections.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.

I have a 1994 chevy astro awd that the transmission will not shift out of 1st the abs light is always on and my electronic speedometer always reads 0 mph what is wrong Ps hit a bump and all these things...

Hi, you will need to check out the speed sensor on the transmission. See if the sensor or it's wiring harness was damaged from hitting the bump. The sensor is mounted with a single bolt in the tail of the transmission and looks like the picture below. If everything looks OK from the outside, it may be that the sensor has failed. There is a sensor test procedure below, but please be very careful if you do this. A new sensor is about $35. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

If you want to pull the error code, remove the passengers side kick panel and look for a pair of wires with a blue connector at the end. Cant find the tach sensor on a 2000 1200 sportster

The tachometer is an electronic tach and gets it's "pulses" from the ignition coil. The older bikes had a pink wire that went to "negative" side of the coil. The negative side of the coil is the side the electronic sensor plate in the ignition cavity on the right side of the engine connects to.

Bike wont start tacho needle points to 3000 rpm

Tachs are coil sensing. Since you have a start problem, chk tach wiring at coil and coil wires.
If all is good, Locate or identify the tach wire and disconnect it. The tach wire should be on the negative side of the coil. If bike starts without tach wire hooked up, Your tack is more than likely the culprit. If bike stll won't run, chk for power to the coil and any possible fuse in ignition circuit. Under the seat I think. Good Luck
