SOURCE: fuel petcock

The petcock is what the fuel flows through when it comes out of the gas tank. It probably includes: * A switch with positions for On, Off and Reserve. * A fuel line going to the carburetors. * A vacuum hose attachment which attaches to a carburetor which tugs on a rubber diaphram to let gas flow through. * An overflow/drip valve from the vacuum area. It's located right under the tank on the rear/left side.

Replace the petcock. The rubber diaphragm is ruptured. I'd also bet your fuel mileage dropped cause the ruptured diaphragm is allowing raw fuel to be sucked into the intake manifold.

Replace petcock assembly and any gasket to tank. Not an item you want to play around with too much because of risk of fire.

Your petcock is vacuum operated. Gasoline leaking from the vent hole indicates that the vacuum diaphram is ruptured. A new petcock assembly is needed.

SOURCE: gas is dripping from the petcock fuel valve( cover

Your bike has a vacuum operated petcock. The vacuum diaphram inside the cover set has cracked and is allowing fuel to leak from the vent hole. Unfortunately, you cannot buy just the diaphram, you've got to buy the cover set (#5 in the picture below), P/N 16953-KEA-023, or replace the whole petcock assembly (item #2), P/N 16950-MEM-674.278cd21.jpg

I have a 2002 honda shadow sabre will hesitate then shut off with about a 1/4 of a tank of gas left have to wait afew minutes for it to start back up. i got right to gas station and fill it up then it

You get 1/4th because of a fuel gauge? or are your guesstimating? If fuel gauge, then I reckon the tank unit is either bent, of there are some connectors that need to be checked for resistance. It's actually a simple thing to assess if you can get the tank off and check out the fuel level sensor.

If the petcock is bad , will this cause the gas to run out the carburator vent line while it is running?

It's just a stuck float valve on one of your carbs. They need a bench clean. And get the cables routed exactly the same way as they were.

1999 Honda VT 1100 C3 Shadow Aero engine not getting fuel

Hi, Mthornton2 you need to locate the fuel flow origin first to isolate the problem area otherwise the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. Fuel cap or fuel tank not venting properly.
3. Fuel filter clogged with rust or dirt.
4. Fuel valve not in the on or reserve position.
5. Vacuum line to fuel valve cracked, broken, pinched, or missing.
6. Fuel valve/petcock clogged or diaphragm cracked, cut or torn.
7. Fuel line from the fuel valve to the carburetor or fuel pump clogged, cracked, pinched, bent, broken, or missing.
8. Fuel pump not working.
9. Fuel line touching cylinder or head causing fuel to boil and vapor lock, repair by rerouting and wrapping line with convoluted tubing.
10. Carburetor inlet clogged.
11. Carburetor float or needle and seat stuck.
12. Carburetor not venting properly overflow line or bowl fitting clogged, pinched, or bent.

I ran out of gas with my 1998 vt750. It is supposed to have a .9 gallon reserve. I usually run with the valve turned to 'on'. When I turned the valve to 'reserve' it was dry. Is something wrong or am I...

Either the intake tube on your fuel petcock has fallen off, Your petcock has worn out and is allowing fuel from the reserve position to leak into the on position hole , or you had the lever in the wrong position. If you had the petcock turned to the correct positions, the you may want to drain the tank and remove the pet **** for inspection. If the fuel inlet tube for the ON position has fallen off, you in effect, have no reserve. If the petcock is worn out you will need to replace it so it will work the way it is supposed to.
