First thing first you will have to find out whether cable driven or electric if its cable easiest way is to remove from back of clocks to expose the inner cable should just unscrew from back of clocks ,raise front wheel in the air and sin front wheel checking whether inner cable is turning if not check at wheel end to see if drive is turning cable to determine where fault is if still not turning will be the drive from wheel pickup if all is well upto clocks then looks like clocks themselves are at fault

because it comes on sometimes and then stops working for no reason.there is a loose connection behind your bike meter u can try to check at the coonection from the c.d.i. units to your meter which the all connection is behind the meter
